Seeing Gary looking like a wronged little puppy, Lexie couldn’t help but want to laugh. But with the way he was giving her those pitiful, aggrieved looks, she had to force herself to hold it in.

Still, come to think of it,Lexie mused.

Gary really was kind of cute like this.

At least, that’s what Lexie thought.

Seeing Gary looking all sad and miserable, Lexie just couldn’t bear it. She sighed, a bit helpless, then met his gaze and said eriously.

Gary, I never said I wouldn’t take responsibility for you. I’m just not ready yet. Can you give me a little more time?

Gary replied, What is it you even need to get ready for? Lex, we’ve been together forever, and I gave you my fox bead ages

  1. go.

In the NineTailed Fox Clan, when a beastman gives his fox bead to his mate, it’s basically like handing over half his life and

Jower.

Lex. I’ve practically handed my whole life to you on a silver platter.

But you? You’re with me, and you still act like you’re being forced into this.

I mean, look at me, I’m a stunning beastman! What could I possibly be lacking? How could my own mate be so put off by

ne?

If people find out about this, I’m finished. I might as well just drop dead.

Wazah

I swear, I can’t go on. If even my own mate doesn’t want me, what’s the point of living anymore?

With that, Gary dramatically flopped onto the bed, looking all weak and pitiful, like he was about to keel over from heartbreak

Seeing Gary like this, Lexie was just floored, she couldn’t help but want to crack up inside.

Seriously, since when did Gary master the whole drama queen act, crying, making a scene, and threatening to end it all? exe thought.

I’m just done. Totally speechless right now!

Gary Lexie called out

What?Gary shot back, sounding all sulky

It’s not that I don’t want you. Last night was just a lot, and it all happened so suddenly. Em and trying to wrap my head

around it.

How about you let me have a moment to myself to chill out, ukay? Lesic sal

So, Lex, are you ever going to ditch me? Will you really stick with me? And when you finally get your memories back are you just gonna pretend you don’t know me anymore? Gary asked, sounding all anxious and insecure.

No way, I promise. You said it yourself, I’ve got your fox bead now. I’m not going anywhere, seriously,” Lexie reassured him.

Okay, I guess,” Gary grumbled, still sounding all mopey.

Only after Lexie gave her promise did Gary drag himself up from the bed, still looking like he was doing it under protest.

Lex, have you eaten yet? Want me to get you some food?Gary asked, still sounding a bit down.

No, I’m fine with just some nutrient fluid. Gary, I’m tired. I just need to rest for a while,Lexie replied.

Alright then,Gary mumbled, sounding a little disappointed.

Watching Gary leave, glancing back at her every few steps, Lexie let out a long sigh and flopped back onto the bed, feeling totally drained by all the drama.

Lying in bed, Lexie’s hand automatically went to the gemstone on her forehead.

Last night’s whole mess happened just because she touched that gemstone.

That gem on her forehead was a gift from the Grand Justice of the Aetherion Federation when she left.

Now it was like the thing had grown into her skin, it was stuck there for good, no matter how much she tried to pry it off.

Every time her hand brushed against that gem, her body would start acting up again.

Luckily, it was Gary who was with her last night. Since he was her mate, whatever happened between them was no big deal, they were already together, so it was all good.

But if she’d lost control and ended up with some other beastman, she’d owe a mountain of emotional debts.

Looked like she’d have to hunt down the Grand Justice and beg him to help get this gemstone off her forehead.

With those thoughts swirling in her mind, Lexie dozed off before she even realized it.

Once the room was quiet again, a wisp of dark mist slithered out from beneath the bed.

The mist circled around Lexie several times, watching her intently as if sizing her up,

Then, it extended a shadowy tendril toward the gemstone on her forehead. But just as it was about to make contact, a powerful force blasted it away.

The dark mist spun through the air, looking like it had taken quite a hit.

It stared at Lexie, its gaze full of unwillingness and resentment. But in the end, it just let out a helpless sigh, turned back into a wisp of shadow, and slunk back under the bed.

Lexie had no clue what was going on and just kept right on sleeping, totally out cold.

Back at the place of the Snow Wolf Clan’s High Priest, the High Priest came in from outside and caught sight of the two skeletal corpses sprawled on the floor. His gaze turned so cold it was almost terrifying

He just stood there, silently staring at the skeletons that had been completely drained of flesh and blood, his whole aura so frigid it felt like the air itself was frosting over.
