The Last True Female (Lexie) (by Sylvia Vance) novel Chapter 193

Chapter 193

After the initial shock, Lexie looked up at the High Priest. His deep eyes were brimming with emotions she couldn’t decipher. There was surprise, a lingering trace of fear, and even more feelings she couldn’t begin to name.

High Priest, I… Lexie said, her voice trembling.

She had no clue how to react to his unexpected embrace, or how to interpret the storm of emotions in his eyes.

The High Priest seemed not to hear her at all. He just held Lexie tightly, like he was afraid to lose her again, clutching her as if she were a precious treasure he’d just gotten back.

High Priest, I’m fine. Can you calm down and let go of me for a second?Lexie said softly.

No, I don’t want to let go. Lex, I’m so sorry. It was my carelessness that got you into so much trouble, the High Priest murmured, his voice thick with guilt.

I knew the Bloodthirsty Beasts had broken free from the underground ice, but I was so focused on reinforcing the ice to trap them that I wasn’t there for you. That’s why you got hurt in the first place,he continued, his voice trembling.

I’m sorry, Lex. All of this is my fault,he said, his voice breaking.

If it hadn’t been for me, you wouldn’t have been in so much danger,he added, regret heavy in his tone.

I messed up, Lex. I’m so sorryhe choked out, his voice cracking with guilt.

Hearing him beat himself up like that, Lexie couldn’t help but sigh. She wrapped her arms tight around his waist and nestled her head against his chest, her voice gentle as she spoke.

High Priest, this really isn’t on you. It was me being reckless that got me snatched by those Bloodthirsty Beasts. Don’t blame yourself, she said softly.

No, it’s all on me. I was running all over the snowy mountains looking for you, scared out of my mind that those Bloodthirsty Beasts might havedone something terrible to you,he stammered, his voice shaking.

Lex, I was so terrified. I never really understood what it meant to be scared or sad, until today,he confessed, emotion thick in his voice.

For the first time, I was truly afraid,” he whispered, the words heavy with feeling.

If I’d made sure you were better protected, none of this would have happened. I’m so sorry, Lex,he said, guilt written all over his face.

Seeing the High Priest so emotional and apologetic, Lexie knew that no matter what she said right now, he wouldn’t really listen.

So she just hugged him tighter around the waist, hoping it would help calm him down a little and stop him from blaming himself so much.

Gary stood off to the side, watching the two of them hugging in the snowstorm, looking thoroughly annoyed.

What a phony bastard! He’s got me beat at playing innocent!Gary muttered under his breath.

Gary glanced at the High Priest, who was clinging to Lexie. There was some contempt in his eyes, but mostly, he was just jealous.

Chapter 193

Ugh! Right in front of me, he’s hugging my mate! Gary grumbled to himself, jealousy gnawing at him.

EX 55 youchers

He was itching to claw up the High Priest’s face, and maybe even mess up that annoyingly perfect, ethereal look of his, make him ugly for once.

If the High Priest turned ugly, Lexie would totally lose interest in him, Gary mused, a wicked little hope flickering inside.

After all, Lexie had told him straight up that she only liked goodlooking beastmen.

Just look at me, I’m a total knockout, obviously.

Just as Gary was busy stewing in his jealous, selfconfident thoughts, Dory, who’d been sticking close to Lexie, finally spoke

  1. up.

Lexie, you’re losing heat way too fast. For your own good, get back in the cave before you freeze, Dory said, her voice urgent.

If you stay out here any longer, you’re gonna end up with frostbite, she added, worry etched all over her face.

As soon as Gary heard Dory’s warning, he didn’t waste a second. He pried the High Priest off Lexie, swept her up in a bridal carry, and marched her straight back into the cave.

That dumb mutt doesn’t know the first thing about looking after a fragile female. But for me, Lex, you’re the only one I care about, and nobody worries about your safety more than I do,Gary declared, oozing smug selfassurance.

As he walked back into the warm cave. Gary spotted Kaelis lying on the bed. Without missing a beat, he kicked Kaelis right off the bed and onto the floor, and then settled in with Lexie in his arms, making himself at home.

Lexie was totally thrown off by Gary’s move. She glanced at Kaelis, who was now sprawled on the floor, and sighed.

Gary, Kaelis is poisoned. He’s really weak. What if he catches a chill lying on the floor?she said, her voice full of concern.

Lex, you’re just too kind. Kaelis is a Snow Wolf beastman who could sleep out in a blizzard and not feel a thing, so lying on the floor is nothing for him,Gary scoffed.

Forget about him and take care of yourself. Here, let me warm you up with my tail,he said, wrapping his big, fluffy tail snugly around her.

Look at your hands, they’re freezing. Come here, let me warm them up,he said, taking her hands and gently pressing them

to his chest.

Gary wrapped his tail tightly around Lexie, took her hands and placed them on his chest, using his own warmth to thaw her fingers.

Feeling better now? Lex, you can’t let yourself freeze. I’d really feel bad if you did,he said, his voice soft and full of concern.

Then, just to show off, Gary leaned down and pressed a kiss to her hand, giving her a playful wink.

His moves were a bit much. But with a face like his, Lexie couldn’t help but find him easy on the eyes.

Feeling the warmth from Gary’s chest and hearing the concern in his voice, she felt a warm glow in her heart.

She knew Gary was a good male, and he’d always treated her well. She’d been snatched by those Bloodthirsty Beasts and dragged out into the endless snowy mountains. She had no idea how long Gary had been searching for her out there before he finally found her.
