Chapter 50
Lexie was beautiful, but in the Aetherion Interstellar Zone, where everyone had evolved to perfection, beautiful people were a dime a dozen, and ugly ones had actually become a rarity.
Based on Lexie’s looks alone, William also thought she was not nearly gorgeous enough for him to lay down his life to protect her. As for her ability to cure gene diseases, every Mermaid had that power.
If there ever came a day when he really needed a Mermaid, he would not mind going to the trouble of catching one in the sea, for he had done it before anyway.
So, in any case, William was unwilling to swear an oath to protect Lexie with his life, because she was not worth it.
Sensing William’s hesitation, Arthur walked over to Lexie, took her hand, and placed it in William’s. “William, hold Lex’s hand, close your eyes, and with your Eagle abilities, what can you feel from her?”
Arthur’s move caught William completely off guard. He looked at Lexie’s small, soft hand, and even with just a gentle squeeze, he could tell there was not an ounce of strength in it.
Even if Mermaids were weak, they should not be as feeble as Lexie, whose hand had no strength at all. William thought, ‘No wonder she was abandoned by her own kind and then saved by Arthur.‘
Still, although Lexie’s hand lacked strength, its soft touch made William subconsciously reluctant to let go. Coupled with the pleasant scent emanating from her, his affection for Lexie surged sharply.
He thought the aura of the beastman in front of him was even nicer than that of those artic
male bots.
At this thought, William stared intently at Lexie’s face and then frowned involuntarily. “Lex, are you wearing a simulation mask on your face?”
Lexie touched her face and asked excitedly, “You can tell?”
Since she had put on this simulation mask, no one had ever noticed it. Yet now, William had only been in contact with her for a short while, and he had recognized the mask on her face. She thought, ‘Eagles truly have sharp eyes.
“Lex, since you want me to swear allegiance to you, can you let me see your real face?” William asked.
Upon hearing William’s words, Lexie glanced at Arthur, seeking his opinion. Only after Arthur nodded in approval did she take off the simulation mask on her face, revealing her true features.
When William got a clear look at Lexie’s face, he could not help but let out a low gasp. “Are you an artificial female bot?”
After a moment of silence, William suddenly said, “No, your hand is warm, the aura around you makes me feel so comfortable, and your face is real too. You are not an artificial female bot; you are a real female?”
Then he began to contradict himself. “That’s impossible. In this world, there are no females left anymore. Wait, Dr. Cole asked me to swear allegiance to you, and even to give my life for you.”
At this point, William suddenly turned around, and he caught a glimpse of the hint of amusement in both Lexie and Arthur’s eyes in an instant. All of a sudden, he understood everything.
“Dr. Cole, was what I just guessed true? S–she is a real female, isn’t she?” William asked in astonishment.
Keep your voice down. Be careful that walls have ears,” Arthur said.
Seeing that Arthur did not deny it either, William was utterly shocked. He turned to look earnestly at Lexie’s face. Overwhelmed with excitement, he stepped forward, about to take her hand, but Arthur slapped his hand away.
Chapter 50
“William, calm down. You are a beastman, and you must not make physical advances on a female. That’s highly ungentlemanly,” Arthur said.
William paid no heed to Arthur’s reprimand. He looked at Lexie with a face full of excitement and wrung his hands nervously in his agitation.
After a long while, William finally found the right words. He stood in front of Lexie and said shyly, “L–Lex. My n–name is William. I am the heir to the Eagle clan, which means I will be the future clan leader.”
He went on, “I am an adult now, I have money, and I look decent enough. Most importantly, I am single at the moment. So Lex, do you think I could-”
“Stop! I brought you here to protect Lex, not to court her as a partner,” Arthur said.
Hearing William’s words straying further off track, Arthur immediately sensed something was wrong.
He had been too reckless just now, he had let slip Lex’s true identity.
Lex had not fully grown up yet, and William was trying to snatch her away.
Arthur thought Austin was not even qualified to be Lexie’s boyfriend, let alone the young eagle cub in front of him.
Seeing Arthur’s protective stance, William said with some reluctance, “Dr. Cole, don’t you think Lex and I are a perfect match?”
“I have money, I am quite capable, and most importantly, we Eagles are extremely loyal. W Dr. Cole, please let me be Lex’s partner, will you?” he said.
e one mate for life. So,
Arthur said, “No. There are plenty of beastmen who meet those criteria. William, if you can restrain your behavior, I will assign you to be by Lex’s side to protect her. But if you cannot control yourself-”
Meeting Arthur’s ambiguous gaze, William asked cautiously, “What are you going to do?”
“For Lex’s safety, I might as well kill you,” Arthur said.
“Dr. Cole, you are a doctor, not a murderer,” William retorted.
