Eric was secretly studying Lexie’s face, trying to figure out if she was hiding something. Suddenly, Lexie waved her hand right in front of his eyes.

Hey, what are you staring at?she asked.

Just admiring how goodlooking you are,Eric replied.

Goodlooking? Me?Lexie blurted out, pointing at her own face in disbelief. You seriously think I’m good- looking?

Of course. You’re stunning. And honestly, your vibe just feelsreally comfortable,” Eric replied.

Why are you dragging my vibe into a compliment about my looks? Still, man, you do have good taste. I mean, I think I look pretty cute now,” Lexie teased.

After all, she’d spent ages tweaking her face to perfection. How could she not look good now?

She’d worked so hard on her appearance, but not a single person had ever actually told her she was good- looking.

But whenever she spotted those absolute stunners, she’d get totally distracted and couldn’t tear her eyes away.

Now that someone had finally called her goodlooking, Lexie couldn’t help but feel secretly pleased.

Alright, I’ve added you on Optic Brain. See you tomorrow, Eric,” Lexie said.

See you tomorrow,Eric replied.

As they parted ways, Eric reached out and gave Lexie’s head a gentle pat, acting all casual.

Even though he pulled his hand away quickly, after he left, Lexie reached up and touched her hair, feeling a bit puzzled.

She wondered, Wait, did Eric just pull my hair?

No way, I must be imagining things. We barely know each other. Why would he pull my hair? Is he trying to run a paternity test or something?

Not giving it another thought, Lexie ruffled her hair and headed back to her room.

Back in his room, Eric stared at the hair he’d just yanked from Lexie’s head, still a little stunned he’d actually

done it.

He hadn’t even thought about it. It was pure instinct.

Now, with the hair in his hand, Eric didn’t know why he did that.

Before he knew it, he brought the strand up to his nose and gave it a sniff.

Instantly, a soft, sweet fragrance drifted into his nostrils.

Isn’t Hill supposed to be a merfolk beastman? How come his hair smells so good?Eric wondered.

He’d met plenty of merfolk beastmen before, and since they spent most of their lives in the deep sea, they always carried this faint, lingering fishy scent.

Other merfolk always had that fishy odor, yet Lexie didn’t have it at all.

Not only was there no fishy smell, but he actually smelled amazing.

Eric pinched the strands between his fingersthey were so soft and smooth, totally unlike the hair of other beastmen, which was usually so tough it could poke a hole in steel.

Eric wondered, Why would a merfolk beastman have hair this soft?

Merfolk beastmen always have hair that is not only long but also tough as a weapon.

But Hill’s hair is different. It’s soft and smooth, not a hint of sharpness to it.’

As Eric stared at the hair in his hand, a wild idea suddenly popped into his head.

He thought, Wait, isn’t this Hill brought back by Dr. Cole?

I saw Dr. Cole personally drop Hill off at school today, taking care of everything himself.

He treated Hill like a doting dad, fussing over every little detail of his life, giving him endless reminders and advice.

And that wasn’t all. He even pulled some strings to get Hill a spot in this dorm.

Most students at this school have to share a room with twelve others, all packed into bunk beds, with more than a dozen people crammed into one tiny space.

With that many students crammed into one room, privacy is basically a joke.

That’s exactly why Dr. Cole bent over backwards to get Hill into the best dorm.

To keep him safe, Dr. Cole even went so far as to arrange for the heir of the Eagle Clan to be by his side.

If Dr. Cole is willing to go to all this trouble, there’s no way Hill is just some regular beastman.

But who exactly is he, anyway? What kind of person could make Dr. Cole go out of his way like this?

After all, Dr. Cole is the kind of person who can stand shoulder to shoulder with Marshal Drake himself.

As these thoughts swirled in his mind, Eric clenched the hair in his hand, his gaze turning deep and contemplative.

He pulled out his Optic Brain and spoke into it, Harvey, get the gene detector over here. And make it fast.”

I’ll meet you downstairs. And remember, keep it quiet. Don’t let anyone see you coming,Eric warned.

Harvey said something else.

Alright,Eric replied.

He ended the call and headed out of the dorm.

Meanwhile, Lexie was stretched out on her dorm bed, totally clueless that her real identity was about to get busted by someone she’d only just met.

At the moment, she was lounging on her bed, hugging the little ninetailed fox with purple fur she’d picked up, idly scrolling through her Optic Brain.

She glanced at the tiny fox curled up by her pillow and reached out to ruffle its head.

Since coming to this world, she’d seen her fair share of ninetailed fox beastmen, but never one with purple fur like this little guy.

That was why, when she first found it, even Arthur sure if it was a beastman or just some oddball fox.

Luckily, it really was just a little fox, not a beastman.

As she scrolled through her Optic Brain, Lexie found no signs of unrest or any news between the Aetherion Empire and the Federation. She still had no clue whether Amya was alive or not.

She opened her contacts, wanting to message Austin, but she held back, worried she might drag him into trouble.

Right then, Lexie’s Optic Brain lit up with an incoming call.

The caller ID showed an unknown number.

Lexie saw her Optic Brain light up. She hesitated for a second, then tapped to answer.

Hello?she answered.

Lex, it’s me,a voice said.

Hearing that voice, Lexie quickly glanced at her Optic Brain screen.

The screen was pitch black, and she couldn’t see a thing on the other side.

Marshal Drake, is that you?Lexie said.
