The Lies Behind Her Marriage novel Chapter 188

You Came.

While reading documents, Serena’s mind drifted back to the image of Nathaniel in the shower — the way he lathered soap over his body, the way the water traced every sculpted line of him.

Her pen paused mid-signature.

She felt as though he was cheating on her.

With water.

Serena blinked.

‘Wait. Why would I feel that way? We aren’t even in a committed relationship,’ she thought.

“Miss Vander, are you okay?” Helene asked cautiously. “You’ve been staring at the same page for five minutes. Maybe you should review the documents later. You might make a mistake.”

Serena gulped. She had wanted to finish reviewing the paperwork before heading to Nathaniel’s house, but her assistant had a valid point.

She looked out the window and then closed the folders altogether. She asked her assistant, “What would you do if you kept having urges for your children’s father?”

Helene looked stupefied. It took a second before she asked, “Is he in a committed relationship?”

“No,” Serena answered. “We are both single.”

“Does he want you the same way, Miss Vander?” Helene asked.

Serena’s eyes narrowed. “He’s always seducing me.”

“If he’s always seducing you, then stop pretending you’re the victim, Miss. Seduce him harder,” Helene answered. “I don’t really see a problem. Plus, you mentioned the kids love him, right? You might as well… get back together.”

When Serena did not answer, Helene continued, “Miss Vander… respectfully… if you don’t take him back, someone else will.”

Her brows met. Serena said through gritted teeth, “He wouldn’t dare.”

“Miss, in today’s age, scheming women can be very creative when it comes to trapping a man,” Helene suggested. “And judging from how you reacted just now, I don’t think you want that.”

Serena got up and grabbed her bag. “I need to clear my head.”

“You mean you need to clear your schedule?” Helene corrected with a smile.

“Just tell my brother I’ll be back,” she instructed.

“Yes, Miss. Good luck!” Helene raised a fist and added, “Oh, and hydrate while you’re on the road.”

On the way back to their neighborhood, three security personnel accompanied her. Milo was behind the wheel. He noticed her uneasiness and asked, “Everything okay, Miss?”

“I’m fine,” Serena answered, though inside, her thoughts were racing.

She wanted to get back at Nathaniel for teasing her at such a crucial moment.

By this time, he was probably in his study, working. So when she arrived at his mansion, she went straight to his office.

She didn’t knock.

When she walked in, Nathaniel was seated on the sofa.

He wasn’t working.

He was waiting and smirking.

He wore a white shirt, the top three buttons undone. The fabric clung slightly to his chest, still damp. It looked like he had taken another shower, knowing she was coming.

Well, of course, he knew — he had a tracker on her.

His sleeves were rolled lazily to his forearms. Dark trousers hung low on his hips.

He was barefoot.
