Drinks and Damage.
“Congratulations on getting justice, Noelle,” Nathaniel said while putting his hands in his pockets.
Noelle smiled. She said, “I did not know you were here.”
“I arrived just in time to see the show,” Nathaniel revealed. “It was spectacular.”
“I saw it too,” Alice said. “Xavier and I were seated in the third row. We were enjoying it. I wish I had brought popcorn.”
Then Alice laughed. “Did you see the look on Brian’s face when he saw that video of his best friend and Gwen? My God!”
“Bet he did not see that coming,” Serena said, chuckling.
Noelle also laughed. Since logging into Logan Redford’s social media account, it had been very easy for her to find pieces of evidence against Brian and Gwen. Not only that, she had discovered Logan and Gwen had been having casual sex for the past three years!
It was shocking and disgusting at the same time.
“Would you like to see Brian and Gwen at the police station? Watch their sorry asses?” Silas suggested.
Noelle frowned and answered, “No, I’ll see Brian when he’s ready to negotiate our divorce. Let him, Gwen, and even Logan enjoy their time in prison.”
“In that case, let’s celebrate!” Alice suggested. “We didn’t get to talk trash about Brian. Let’s take this opportunity to do so. Drinks are on Nathan.”
“Yeah—what?” Nathaniel leaned back. “Drinks are on me?”
Noelle laughed, while Serena nodded.
“Yes, love. Drinks are on you,” Serena said. She turned to her brother. "Silas could use this time to unwind, and don't worry, Mom and Dad will take care of the kids."
“Well.” Xavier smiled as he said, “I’d sure like the taste of Nathan’s money.”
Serena and Alice laughed.
On the other hand, Silas put a hand on Nathaniel’s shoulders. “My brother-in-law’s money tastes great.”
Nathaniel nodded, grabbing Silas’s shoulder. “Thank you, Brother. Let’s head to the bar. My treat. Let's also consider this an advance engagement celebration between Serena and me—Ouch!”
“No, it’s not,” Serena smacked him. “If I’m going to have an engagement party, it’s going to be grand.”
Minutes later, they were at the bar of Rexam Grand Hotel, talking trash about Brian.
Drinks were on the table, paired with an assortment of expensive cheeses and nuts. Everyone couldn’t stop laughing.
“I still can’t believe it,” Alice said, laughing. “Brian got cheated on while cheating.”
“That takes skill,” Xavier added. “He downgraded and still got cuckolded.”
Because of this, she ended up pouring more wine into her glass, her mind wandering back to her high school days.
She and Silas had always been competing with each other. Noelle used to think he hated her guts, but now that she thought about it, he had been almost everywhere she was in school. He always had something to say to her—something she once took as condescension, but maybe it wasn’t like that at all.
After being lost in these thoughts and having a little too much to drink, she felt the need to relieve her bladder. She got up, saying, “I need to go to the ladies’ room.”
“Let me accompany you,” Silas also got up.
Noelle initially rejected the idea, but Serena said, “Let him. It’s his job now to look after you.”
So, Noelle made it to the ladies’ room with Silas following behind her.
Just as they got there, they encountered someone from the past.
“Noelle, Silas. It’s so good to see you again!”
It was Mrs. Judith Crane, their old high school teacher.
Mrs. Crane’s eyes were gleaming at the sight of them. She said, “Two of my best students.”
That brief encounter with their old teacher was heartwarming and had uplifted Noelle’s spirits. But more than that, her teacher’s words made her realize she had been wrong about Silas all along.
