Sapphire Fireworks.
Everyone was tired after a whole day of fun and walking, sometimes running.
Thus, they were all looking forward to a heavy and sumptuous dinner.
Nathaniel and Silas had arranged for them to have their meal at the theme park’s Skyview Observatory Deck. Tables were set up along the open rooftop, each draped in crisp white linen.
From where Serena stood, the entire park stretched below: rides glowing, music faint in the distance, and the sky above slowly deepening into a canvas of stars.
“This is perfect, and we get to eat in time for the fireworks,” Serena muttered.
As always, the theme park’s day would end with fireworks, and everyone was looking forward to it, especially Theo and Sebastian. As for Alisa, not so much, but Nathaniel had brought her headset so she wouldn’t be overwhelmed by the sound.
“Here’s your fish fillet, Miss,” a server said, setting down a plate. The rest of the food followed.
“I’m starving,” Alice remarked. “I could eat a horse.”
“Here’s your horse, ma’am,” Xavier said, putting a huge plate of steak in front of Alice.
Laughter echoed around them. Silas said, “Xavier knows you Alice well.”
Serena chuckled. “Yes, he does.”
“Mommy, I want to eat,” Alisa said, tugging on Serena’s blouse.
“Okay, baby. Your fish fillet is here,” Serena said before preparing her daughter’s plate.
They were seated at two long tables.
Sterling and Celine sat with Alice’s parents, along with Landon. Serena was with Silas, Noelle, the kids, Xavier, Alice, and, of course, Nathaniel.
But Nathaniel was giving further instructions to the park manager. He came back just in time for Sebastian’s food to arrive.
“I ordered champagne and fresh fruit juices for the kids,” Nathaniel said, taking the seat next to Serena. He then prepared Sebastian’s plate. “Here’s your chicken lollipop, Bastin.”
“Thanks, Dad,” Bastin said before happily digging in.
“Ali, Bastin, do you want spaghetti?” Theo offered, even though he was three seats away.
“I want,” Sebastian said, raising his hands.
Only Alisa refused. She wrinkled her nose and shook her head.
“Ali,” Nathaniel reminded their daughter, “explain to Theo why you don’t want the pasta.”
Alisa turned to her father and gulped. Then she glanced back at Theo and said, “I don’t like tomato sauce.”
“Good girl,” Nathaniel said, smiling and caressing Alisa’s head. “Always speak your mind, baby.”
“Okay, Daddy,” Alisa acknowledged.
From then on, everyone enjoyed the food.
Now and then, Nathaniel fed Serena.
Silas mimicked Nathaniel, stuffing food into Noelle’s mouth, as if there were a romance competition going on.
“You guys should join,” Nathaniel said to Xavier and Alice.
Serena’s best friends looked at each other and then burst out laughing.
“Sure, why not?” Alice said, picking up a huge slice of steak and feeding Xavier. “There you go, lover.”
Xavier accepted the food but laughed as he chewed, his face turning red.
All of a sudden, a majestic piece of music played throughout the park.
“Ladies and gentlemen, our fireworks show will begin shortly.”
Serena’s back straightened.
The kids burst with excitement, while Alisa turned to her dad in panic.
Nathaniel quickly placed the headset over Alisa’s ears. Then everyone waited.
Woosh!
A streak of light cut through the night sky.
The first explosion bloomed overhead, bright and sudden, painting their faces in flashes of gold and crimson.
Crackle!
Sparks cascaded downward like glittering rain, shimmering before fading into the darkness.
One after another, the fireworks lit up the sky, each burst bigger, brighter, louder than the last.
“Amazing!” Theo exclaimed. “Wow!”
