Best Birthday.
“So your mom was that woman I saved when I was twelve?” Nathaniel repeated. He still could not believe his ears.
Serena nodded as she climbed onto the bed. She and the kids had decided to stay with him that evening after a long day at the park.
“Yes, and you may not know this, but they visited you at the hospital after you were beaten by those thugs,” Serena said. “Dad also used his connections to help your mom and uncle get their loan approved to start the pharmacy business.”
Nathaniel’s mouth fell open.
He was still in shock. After a while, he said, “Yes, my uncle said the same. He probably mentioned Celine and Sterling’s names, but it had been so long and—”
Nathaniel turned to Serena. “They never left their contact numbers. We never got to thank them.”
“Well, now you know,” Serena said with a faint smile. “That’s why my family chose to let things be after the divorce. It’s also the reason why Mom favors you.”
He paused for a moment, ran his fingers through his hair, and leaned back. Yet again, guilt washed over him.
The Vanders were the very people who had helped them start NC Pharmacies, yet he had been the one to hurt Serena.
Nathan fell quiet, the truth weighing heavily on him. It took him a moment before he looked at her again, something resolute settling in his expression.
“This doesn’t change anything, Love.”
He drew a breath. “If anything… it tells me this was never by chance. Our paths were meant to cross.”
His fingers closed around hers. “It only gives me more reason to stay, and to make up for everything I did wrong.”
“Do you believe me?” he asked, concerned by her silence.
Serena smiled. “I do. I believe you. So… I decided to promote you from boyfriend to fiancé. Don’t mess it up.”
She laughed. “If you ask me, you had an express pass. You have the kids to thank for that.”
He frowned. “You are going to pay for that.”
“How?” she chuckled, lying on the pillow.
Nathaniel took off his shirt and declared, “By making a baby with me.”
He kissed her and surprised her with a greeting, “Happy birthday, Love.”
Yes, it was Serena and Silas’s birthday, since it was already past midnight. They had gone to the theme park earlier that day to take the kids out for fun, but the next day would be a grand celebration for the Vanders.
“Thank you, Love,” Serena flushed. “But I’m too tired to be making a baby right now—Mmm… God, that feels good.”
“Ahh… Mmm.”
Serena moaned right after Nathaniel kissed her neck, his other hand finding her groin.
“God… what am I going to do with you?” she murmured, her voice low and soft, carrying a teasing warmth.
Lately, Serena had forgotten about the condom rule, so he was going to make it count.
Thank goodness he knew Serena inside out.
He knew her weaknesses, and he was going to exploit them for baby number three.
It did not take long.
Sensual cries quickly filled the room.
