The Lies Behind Her Marriage novel Chapter 49

“I’ll assist you with packing,” Xavier said, his gray eyes shimmering with sincerity. “Mrs. Jones and I can manage it. Besides, you don’t have an extensive wardrobe to begin with.”

Serena let out a laugh that was both sad and heartwarming. She turned towards her parents, her voice trembling slightly as she explained, “It’s true. I kind of fled from Velmon City. I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone back home thinks I’m gone for good.”

As they gathered around, Xavier and Serena recounted the harrowing tale of how she narrowly escaped the disaster of Eastwind Air 1061. The gravity of the situation weighed heavily on her family, and they could hardly process the thought of losing Serena for a second time. Celine, overwhelmed by emotion, broke down, tears streaming down her cheeks.

“Oh, Xavier, you have brought our daughter back to us,” Celine gasped between sobs, her voice thick with gratitude. “Not only did you save her, but you also returned her to our lives. You are truly a blessing.”

Celine’s eyes bore into Xavier’s as she posed a question that hung in the air, heavy with implications. “Tell me the truth, Xavier. Do you feel something more for Serena than just friendship?”

The question caught Serena off guard, and she could sense the shock ripple through Xavier as well.

Did Xavier see her as more than just a friend? Deep down, Serena already understood the answer. It was precisely why an invisible barrier had formed between them. Xavier harbored genuine feelings for her, but her heart had been so entangled with Nathaniel’s that she had failed to notice anything else.

“Mom, please,” Serena interjected, her voice shaky with anxiety. “Let’s not make things awkward. Xavier has been one of my closest friends for such a long time.”
