Chapter 89: No Objections

No Objections.

“We will not bring the kids here to Velmon,” Sterling said. “You are going to have to make the extra effort to go to Rexam and see them.”

“Understood,” Nathaniel said. “I wouldn’t want to trouble you, M Vander.”

At the moment, the kids were settled at the next table with Celine they were playing with the toys Nathaniel and Bianca had given them. But now and then, they stared back, specifically at their father.

Only Nathaniel, Bianca, Sterling, Silas, and Serena remained at the main table. Gavin had left to handle a few matters on behalf of Nathaniel.

“Ideally, we want you to visit the kids on weekends, since we’re busy with the business,” Sterling added. “If you intend to bring them to their playgroup, that can be arranged, but one of our security team will always follow behind you. As I mentioned before, give us prior notice if you plan to come to Rexam.”

“We won’t allow you to take the kids overnight unless we can already trust you,” Silas added.

“That means no long trips for now,” Sterling continued. “No changes to the children’s routine without Serena’s consent. No skipping therapy sessions or playgroup when you are in Rexam.”

“No photos or posts online for now,” Silas chimed in. “We’re not prepared to explain your history with Serena to the public, especially what you put my sister through. This also means we don’t intend to invite you to any of our public gatherings.”

Serena stared at Nathaniel. She said, “If the kids get sick while they’re with you, I expect a call immediately.”

“Of course,” Nathaniel responded quickly.

“You don’t make drastic disciplinary decisions,” Sterling said. “If possible, consult any one of us whenever there’s a need. And don’t make promises you can’t keep.”

“And one more thing,” Sterling said evenly. “If Serena says no, the discussion is over.”

“Got it,” Nathaniel acknowledged.

Serena handed Nathaniel a list of addresses. She explained, “The first on the list is our home, where we live. The next is the therapy center that handles all of Alisa’s treatments. There’s also the daycare address and her doctors.”

“I noticed that Ali doesn’t have a neurologist,” Nathaniel pointed out.

“Her developmental pediatrician didn’t see any neurological red flags,” Serena explained. “If there had been, Ali would have been referred immediately.”

“Serena, my new business focuses on neurological conditions, including epilepsy,” Nathaniel said carefully. “Silent seizures aren’t always obvious. I know her doctors are careful, but it’s more common in children with ASD. If there’s a way to rule it out, I’d feel better.”

“All right. We can talk about it.” Serena was slightly disappointed in herself for missing that possibility. In away, she was thankful for Nathaniel’s input.

“We-we’re okay with everything,” Bianca said next, a forced smile reflected on her face.

Serena and her family fell silent next. The last part had yet to come. It was her responsibility to tell Nathaniel.

She leaned closer to the table, her elbows resting on its surface, and looked him in the eye. “We don’t intend to change the children’s last names. They will both remain Vanders, but we can add you as their father in the records.”

For the first time, Nathaniel flinched. He opened his mouth to say something, then closed it again.

Bianca’s brows drew together. She turned to Nathaniel, but he tapped her shoulder gently. “It’s okay, Mother:” Nathaniel looked back at Serena and her family. “I’ll take whatever I can. They don’t need my name to be my children.” “Thank you, Nathan, for understanding,” Serena said.

“This meeting is over,” Sterling declared. “You and Serena can plan tomorrow’s trip to the theme park. Milo and Clark, our bodyguards, will be accompanying you. You’ll need all the help you can get. Parks tend to be crowded.”

“Don’t worry, Mr. Vander. I intend to close the park,” Nathaniel said. “The owner of Grand Velmon Funfair is one of our clients at the Neuro Institute.”

“I’ll be there to take pictures too,” Bianca added with a smile. “I’ll help watch the kids. Of course, your bodyguards can still assist. I bet the kids run fast.”

“They do,” Serena said. “Especially Bastin.”
