The Loser Ex-Wife Came Back Hot novel Chapter 17

Sylvie bit her lip. Ms. Lowell's accusatory glare made her stomach churn with unease.

Her relationship with Caleb had already put her in the teachers' crosshairs; the last thing she needed was to be branded as a vindictive bully seeking revenge on a whistleblower.

Ms. Lowell didn't say another word, but for the entire lecture, she didn't so much as glance at Sylvie, her own subject representative.

After class, Sylvie tracked down Nova, who was heading out for her run. Putting on her best guilt-ridden face, she grabbed Nova's hand. "Nova, when Tina and the others were messing with your desk, I tried to stop them, I really did, but they wouldn't listen. I'm so sorry... you didn't get hurt earlier, did you?"

Sylvie fully expected Nova to cave and forgive her, just like always. Instead, Nova coldly yanked her hand away, her demeanor freezing over. "That has nothing to do with you."

As Nova turned to leave, panic flared in Sylvie's chest. She practically threw herself in front of her. "Nova, I already apologized! Can't you just forgive me? We're best friends! I know you reported me because you're jealous that Caleb confessed to me, but you can't force feelings!"

Sylvie purposely raised her voice, ensuring that the students lingering in the corridor heard every word.

In the past, Nova had always been Caleb's pathetic shadow. She delivered his morning milk, cheered herself hoarse for him at track meets, and even slipped love letters into his locker—the whole school knew about it.

Taking in the gossip-hungry faces of the crowd, Nova actually laughed.

In her past life, she had harbored a secret crush on Caleb, but because she was so cripplingly insecure, she had always kept her gestures low-key and supportive behind the scenes. It was Sylvie who had broadcasted it to the entire student body.

Sylvie always promised to act as her wingman, but in reality, she was just using Nova as an excuse to get closer to Caleb.

It was Sylvie who told everyone who would listen about Nova's desperate crush. She paraded Nova's private efforts around like a joke, making sure everyone thought Nova was shamelessly throwing herself at him.

Because of that, the boys found her repulsive, and the girls thought she had no self-respect.

She must have been out of her mind in her past life to believe Sylvie was genuinely trying to help her. Even when her secrets were exposed and she was mocked relentlessly, she had been stupid enough to think it was just an accident on Sylvie's part.
