Hearing the sheer contempt in his voice, Nova actually smiled.
She had never truly realized that in Caleb's mind, she was nothing more than a despicable, selfish, and dark-hearted villain.
They had, after all, grown up together. Back in kindergarten and elementary school, they used to play and joke around constantly. Sure, they went to different middle schools and drifted apart, but it had never warranted this level of vicious hostility.
Nova snapped her book shut, looking completely unbothered. “If you actually have a brain, go investigate it yourself. If you find real evidence proving I did it, feel free to report me. But if you have nothing, then stop playing the white knight in front of me. It just makes you look like an absolute idiot.”
“You!”
Caleb was completely triggered by her words. He slammed his hand on the table and stood up, rearing back to strike her.
The very next second, a hand clamped down on his arm. Alaric's voice was ice-cold. “This is a library, not a place for you to throw a tantrum.”
Nova froze. When she looked up, she caught the chilling glint in Alaric's eyes.
“Who the hell do you think you are? Back off!”
Caleb tried to shove Alaric away, but Alaric's grip was like an iron vise. Caleb yanked his arm multiple times but couldn't break free.
Alaric stated flatly, “A Student Librarian's job is to maintain order in the library. Do you need me to press the security alarm?”
Only then did Nova notice the red armband pinned to Alaric's sleeve. It clearly read, 'Student Librarian'.
She remembered the school paid their librarians; only students on financial aid took up the job.
