Soon, the people around them looked at Sylvie with envious eyes.
"Sylvie, Caleb treats you so well. I can't even imagine a guy taking me to look at cars."
"Seriously. But some people just don't have that kind of luck. Earlier, someone shamelessly claimed she was going to call off her engagement with him. I bet she just said that big talk to save face. As if Caleb would ever look her way."
Hearing that Caleb was going to buy Sylvie a car, the surrounding classmates eagerly gathered around her.
Nova found the noise annoying, so she grabbed her practice test and walked out of the classroom.
Seeing Nova leave, Tina finally spoke up. "Nova has been getting picked up and dropped off by cars every day lately. I don't know where she's getting the money to swap out all these luxury rides."
"Isn't she a financial aid student? Could her family actually be super rich?"
"No way. If she's not the financial aid student, then who is the one in our grade?"
Hearing the others gossip, Sylvie panicked, terrified they would suspect her. Feigning composure, she said, "I heard... Nova's dad is a driver for some wealthy family. His boss has been away on a business trip recently, which is why Nova gets to ride in those luxury cars."
"Oh, so that's it! I was wondering why Nova used to walk to school and suddenly had luxury cars picking her up. Turns out her dad is just using his boss's cars for his daughter."
"Tch, and here I thought Nova was some big shot. It's all just an act!"
Watching the other students scoff at Nova, Sylvie felt a flutter of anxiety. But she couldn't let anyone know she was actually the only financial aid student in the junior year. Otherwise, the pristine image she had worked so hard to build would be destroyed.
In the reading corner down the hall, Nova was focused on her practice test when a carton of milk suddenly appeared in her line of sight.
She looked up to find Alaric standing there.
