“Hold the line!” Marcus–ordered, firing his own weapon at advancing Hunters. “Students to the safe room, now!”
Lily, Simone, and Hannah herded younger pack members toward the reinforced bunker beneath the Pack House. But hunters had already breached the main building.
A silver grenade rolled down the hallway toward them.
Simone, the tracker, saw it first. She grabbed it, used her supernatural speed to throw it back through the wincow it came from.
The explosion outside took down three Hunters.
“This way!” Lily pushed the pups forward, her newly manifested empathy projection flooding them with calm despite the terror.
Behind them, hunters poured through broken doors.
燙
Hannah, the healer, turned back. “Go! Get them to safety!”
“Hannah, no”
But the sixteen–year–old was already moving, placing herself between the Hunters and the fleeing pack members. Her healing gifts worked in reverse, too, she’d discovered. She could cause pain as easily as
relieve it.
When the Hunters tried to shoot past her, agony dropped them screaming to their knees.
“That’s for everyone you tortured,” Hannah snarled.
Outside, Marcus watched the western wall crumble. Too many Hunters, too much silver, too few defenders.
“We can’t hold!” one warrior shouted.
“We hold until Alpha Sera returns!” Marcus shifted, his Beta wolf larger and more powerful than normal. Desperation lent him strength. “For Crescent Moon!”
The remaining warriors rallied, throwing themselves at the invaders with renewed fury.
But Marcus knew the truth. They were losing.
Minutes, maybe. That’s all they had left
The world snapped back into focus.
I collapsed to my knees, power exhausted, body screaming. But we were here. Crescent Moon territory.
Half a mile from the Pack House.
Close enough to feel the battle through pack bonds,
Katherine recovered first, helping me stand. That was insane Brilliant, but insane
“Can you fight?” I asked them all
#
Riley looked ready to pass out Maya was shaking Jade nodded grimly Elena and Katherine were already shifting
“We fight,” Elena said “What’s the plan?
“We will end this I reached through pack bonds, feeling the battle, the positions, the tide turning against us “Marcus was at the westem wall Lucas is in the east. The Pack House is breached
“We need to split up.” Katherine said. “Cover more ground.”
“No. We stay together, hit them where it hurts most.” I pointed toward the Pack House Students are trapped We get them out, then we collapse the Hunters‘ advance from behind”
We ran through the forest, supernatural speed eating up distance. The sounds of battle grew louder gunfire, howls, screams.
I felt another spike of pain, more bleeding. My body was failing, but I pushed it aside. After the battle. I’d worry about my daughter after the battle.
We burst from the tree line into chaos.
The Pack House was burning. Hunters had set fires, using smoke to flush out defenders. Wolves fought desperately, but silver bullets and grenades were taking a terrible toll
“Riley, shield at the Pack House entrance. Keep the fire from spreading.” I looked at Jade. “Anyone trying to
harm pack members, make them feel terror like they’ve never known.”
The girls moved immediately, their gifts flaring.
Katherine and Elena shifted, tearing into the nearest group of Hunters. I drew on Daughter power, reaching
for their bonds. These were humans, but humans who’d voluntarily given themselves to a cause. That
created connections I could manipulate.
I severed those connections brutally
The Hunters‘ coordination collapsed. Suddenly, they weren’t a team but individuals, confused and isolated.
“That’s new” Katherine said, ripping through the disoriented enemies.
“Learned it from studying Torres’s bond with the Covenant‘ I moved toward the Pack House, power crackling around me. “Any organization is just a collection of bonds. Break the bonds, break the
organization”
We fought our way to the entrance Inside, Hannah stood over fallen Hunters, her young face set with
determination.
“Alpha!” Relief flooded her voice. The younger students are safe in the bunker but Lily and Simone are stat

upstairs. Hunters cut them off.”
“Show me.”
We ran upstairs, following the sounds of fighting. Found Lily and Simone back–to–back in a corridor, holding off six Hunters. Lily’s empathy projection kept them at bay, but she was fading, the strain showing.
