THE LUNA WHO CONQUERED DEATH
Chapter 37: Aftermath and Revelations
I held Luna for the first time since giving birth, marveling at how something so small could be so powerful.
Three days had passed since the battle. Crescent Moon was rebuilding. The wounded were healing,
thanks to my daughter’s unexpected gift. The dead were being mourned.
Twenty–three wolves were lost in the attack. Each name carved into my heart.
“She’s hungry,” Dr. Moira said, checking monitors in the NICU. “Her appetite is good, lungs are strengthening. She’s defying every expectation for a thirty–week preemie.”
“Because she’s not entirely normal.” I adjusted Luna carefully, watching her silver eyes track my face. “What did she do, healing everyone… has it happened again?”
“Small bursts. When she’s distressed, power flickers. But nothing like that first night.” Dr. Moira’s expression was concerned. “Alpha, I need to be honest. I’ve never seen anything like this. A newborn with
active daughter gifts, healing abilities this strong… I don’t know what to expect.”
“Neither do I.” I touched Luna’s tiny hand, felt her grip my finger. “But we’ll figure it out together.”
Adrian entered, moving slowly. Diana’s healers had worked on his injuries, but broken ribs took time even
for hybrids. He smiled when he saw us.
“There’s my girl.” He settled carefully into the chair beside us. “How is she?”
“Terrifying and perfect.” I shifted Luna so he could see her better. “She smiled at Elena that morning.
Actually smiled, not just gas.”
“Impossible. Newborns don’t smile for weeks.”
“Our daughter does.” I looked at him seriously. “Adrian, we need to talk about what happens next.”
His expression sobered. “The Covenant.”
“What’s left of it. Pierce is dead, but he was one man. The organization has cells across the world.” I kept my voice low, aware of Dr. Moira nearby. “And now they know about Luna. About what she can do.”
“I’ve been working on that.” He pulled out his tablet. “The prisoners Diana captured? I’ve been interrogating them. With your permission, of course.”
“You’re asking permission to interrogate people who tried to kill our pack?”
“I’m asking permission to use enhanced interrogation techniques. Because traditional methods aren’t working. These enhanced soldiers… the transformation process changed them. Made them fanatically loyal to the Covenant’s cause.”

“How enhanced are we talking?”
“Memory manipulation. Bond severance. Making them relive their worst fears until they break.” His voice was flat. “I’m not proud of the methods, but we need information.”
I thought about it. These were humans who’d voluntarily undergone transformation to hunt supernatural beings. Who’d killed wolves, tortured daughters, tried to harvest us for profit?
“Do it. Get everything they know. Cell locations, operatives, funding sources, planned operations.” I looked at Luna, sleeping peacefully despite the dark conversation. “We end this threat before she’s old enough to remember it.”
“There’s something else,” Adrian swiped at a different file. “I recovered data from Pierce’s computers before the building burned. Financial records, research files, communications.”
“And?”
“The enhanced soldier program was just phase one. Phase two was creating an army. Thousands of soldiers with supernatural abilities, all loyal to the Covenant.” He showed me schematics, disturbing medical diagrams. “They were months away from mass production.”
My blood ran cold. “Thousands of enhanced humans hunting supernatural beings?”
“Extinction–level threat. For all of us. Wolves, vampires, witches, everyone.” He closed the tablet. “But there’s good news. We destroyed their main facility, killed their lead researcher, captured their test
subjects. The program is set back years, maybe decades.”
“Unless someone else picks up where Pierce left off.)
“That’s why we need to expose everything. Make it public.” He leaned forward. “Sera, I know supernatural secrecy is sacred. But if we don’t reveal what the Covenant was doing, they’ll just rebuild in secret.”
“You want to tell humanity that supernatural beings exist?”
“I want to tell humanity that a secret organization was kidnapping people and conducting illegal medical experiments. That part is true whether we mention supernatural aspects or not.” His eyes were intent. “We control the narrative. Release evidence of human rights violations, illegal research, corporate corruption. Let human authorities handle prosecution.”
“And if they start asking questions about the victims? About why Covenant research involved non–human
DNA?”
