Chapter 262
Lyra
The tension between Alexander and Kieran crackles almost visibly, my Alpha’s territoriality meeting a
healer’s determination.
“I’m suggesting,” Kieran says carefully, “that I can serve as an anchor point–stabilizing the magical energies without interfering in your bond directly.”
“And how would that work?” Alexander’s voice carries a warning edge.
Kieran approaches the edge of the pool, hands raised in a non–threatening gesture. “I remain outside the pool, focusing healing energy through Lyra to create a stable framework around your bond. I don’t touch the bond itself–only provide structure for you to build upon.”
I feel Alexander’s reluctance through our flickering connection, but also his recognition of necessity. Another painful fluctuation in the bond forces a decision.
“Do it,” he says tersely to Kieran, then meets my eyes with an intensity that steals my breath. “But understand this–what exists between Lyra and me belongs to us alone.”
The possessive declaration sends a shiver through me that has nothing to do with the ritual and everything to do with the man holding me. Kieran nods his understanding and kneels at the pool’s edge, extending his hands over the water without touching it.
“Focus on your connection,” he instructs us. “I’ll stabilize the energies around you.”
Alexander turns his attention back to me, eyes dark with emotions too complex to name. “Where were we?” he murmurs, the question intimate despite our audience.
The ritual resumes as his lips find mine again, the kiss somehow both tender and demanding. The amulet pulses between our clasped hands, matching the rhythm our bodies naturally find together. Kieran’s healing energy flows around us, creating a framework as promised–not touching our bond directly but stabilizing the magical environment surrounding it.
Gradually, the violent fluctuations in our connection ease. The bond doesn’t strengthen significantly, but it stops deteriorating, settling into a stable if muted connection between us. The whispers in the Cave grow quieter, approving rather than urgent.
When we finally separate, breathless and flushed, the ritual’s immediate purpose has been achieved. The bond remains fragile, damaged, but no longer actively unraveling.
“It worked,” Elara announces, her violet eyes assessing the magical energies with growing skill. “The bond is stabilized, though not fully restored.”
“A temporary solution,” Kieran adds, rising from his position at the pool’s edge, careful to maintain respectful distance. “The framework I’ve helped create will hold for perhaps two weeks at most. After that, the unraveling will begin again unless a permanent healing is achieved.”
Alexander keeps an arm around my waist as we step from the pool, both of us unsteady from the ritual’s intensity. “And how do we achieve permanent healing?” he asks, addressing the question to the Cave as

much as to Kieran.
The answer comes from the whispers, flowing through me in concepts rather than words. “Complete bond restoration requires three elements we don’t currently possess,” I explain. “Essence of moonflower that blooms only during the celestial alignment three nights from now, willing blood from the one who cast the spell or her direct bloodline, and…” I hesitate, the final requirement making heat rise to my cheeks again.
“And?” Alexander prompts, his arm tightening slightly around my waist.
“Complete mate bond consummation,” I finish quietly. “The ritual must occur during or immediately after the first full mating between bonded pairs.”
