The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 401

Elena hoped the little wolf was okay, and that it forgave her for leaving so suddenly. Surely, Massimo would take good care of it?

Massimo sent Elena so many presents. He was trying to be sweet yet ended up being incredibly showy, too—in a way only Massimo could be.

Elena was happy but also conflicted as she looked at the sea of presents Massimo had sent.

It didn't seem like Massimo was mad at her. There wasn't any demand for her to return to New York left in pockets of the fine jackets he sent or angry letters attached to any boxes. It seemed like Massimo was genuinely trying to just be nice?

Elena thought about this deeply for a moment. Massimo had her address, yet he hadn't visited her himself—he just sent her presents. That wasn't how anyone dealt with mafia traitors?

But on the other hand, Massimo hadn't sent any letters or texts—he hadn't said anything. He hadn't promised to forgive her or vowed that she'd return and face punishment. It was impossible to guess what exactly he was thinking from a barrage of presents.

Elena debated whether she should return this gesture by reaching out to Massimo. She did still have his number. Elena nearly laughed at the thought.

Just a few months ago, she would've written off this absurdly out of touch gesture, but now, after having spent a lot of time with the Mafia King, Elena was more inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. She was more willing to try to understand what he meant to say.

Elena's phone suddenly buzzed.

"Any chance this week is better for you?" Lucilla texted. "I get you're busy but you still have to eat—might as well do it with company. I just got more of those fancy pastries you like."

Elena smiled at the message. Maybe she had written off her mafia ties as more blood-thirsty and less loyal than they really were.

As Elena looked at the message, she saw the clock in the corner of the screen. It was nearly three am!

Elena quickly pocketed her phone. She could figure out how to answer Lucilla—and maybe even Massimo—tomorrow. For now, she needed to head to bed.

The next morning, there were even more packages at the door. All of them were addressed to Elena. There must've been a dozen mailmen who visited within one short hour.
