It was late, so Elena wasn't surprised that Noah and Sloane had already headed to bed for the night. She was a little disappointed though. Seeing them would've brightened her mood—plus they might've known why there were a bunch of packages for Elena.

But since Elena was alone, there was only one way for her to get any answers to her questions. Elena decided to start opening the boxes.

They didn't have any cards or return slips inside, so Elena couldn't be sure of who sent them. But as Elena slowly opened each parcel, she had a stronger and stronger suspicion she knew who the sender was—and that every item was sent by the same person.

There were beautiful dresses, expensive blouses, fancy heels, and designer sunglasses. Elena thought all these things were dazzling and nice to look at, but most of them struck her as very impractical. They reminded her of the sort of fashion pieces Massimo had filled her room at his estate with.

Most of the boxes contained outfits and jewelry. They looked very similar to the sorts of pieces Elena normally liked to wear, but clearly made out of more expensive materials. Elena wondered if any of the designer scrubs would withstand the rough use a hospital shift might put them through—the fabric seemed sturdy but shifts could get very messy.

Elena tried to ignore the pattern that was emerging as she sorted through each gift—that only one person would know so much about her tastes yet still miss the mark. That only a handful of people could ever afford this growing pile of presents.

She still had one gift to unwrap. It easily came in the smallest box of the lot but it still required two hands to open. Elena almost gasped when she saw what was inside.

Inside was a medical go-bag. It was clearly custom made.
