Chapter 102 We wait it out…

She refused to budge from his bedside.

I’ve never pretended I’m above jealousy, but seeing her throw herself into the fight for
one of ours the way she did-no hesitation, no second-guessing-hit me right in the
chest. That kind of loyalty is rare. It reminded me, again, that I chose the right warrior to
stand beside her.
People keep circling her like they’re meant to, like something bigger is pulling them into
her orbit. And after today? I can’t deny how much more connected she’s becoming to
what she can do. She has been finding her footing with her gifts for a while, but tapping
into that vampire side for real? That was something else.
Goddess, I’ve been lucky.
We had a recliner hauled into Iron Fang’s room. His mom had stepped out for coffee, all
gratitude and soft smiles, thanking my mate over and over for saving her son. Josephine.
Sweet woman. Our pack has already made it clear she can come and go—and stay-as
long as she wants.
So Bridget and I were tucked into the chair together, her curled into my chest like she
belonged there, like she’d always belonged there. I could practically feel the pups-tiny,
steady thumps that weren’t mine. Talon says he can sense them too, and he swears their
heartbeats are strong.
Mystique, meanwhile, has been glued to their side in her own way-the kind of fierce
hovering that tells you exactly what kind of mother she’s going to be. And of course,
neither she nor our wolves will give up whether it’s boys, girls, or one of each. We’re
stuck waiting for the doctor to confirm it.
Bridget stirred against me, blinking herself awake from her nap.
“Thank you for staying,” she murmured, voice still sleepy. “I wouldn’t have been able to
handle any of this alone.”
I ran my fingers through her hair, slow and steady. “You’ll never have to. I’m here,
always.” I paused, then asked quietly, “Have you heard anything from her? Alessandra?”

She shook her head. “No. I tried reaching out. Nothing. Maybe she’s just… not social? Like Mystique is.”
A laugh slipped out of me. “Mystique has social on a leash. If it’s about balance, Alessandra’s going to be the complete opposite.”
Bridget giggled, then her grin turned wicked. “Mystique told me to pass along a
message. She’s going to make sure the first word is ‘mama.’ And the second is ‘Uncle Connor.””
I barked a laugh, loud enough that I glanced toward the bed.
Iron Fang shifted.
Barely-just a twitch, a faint change in his breathing-but I caught it. Bridget did too,
sitting up straighter as we watched. And then, as if he’d decided not to give us the
satisfaction, he went still again.
Bridget spoke like she couldn’t stop herself. “Would it be terrible if I just… woke him?”
“Yes,” I said, simple and firm. “He needs to heal.”
My hand slid down her arm and settled over her stomach, palm warm against her skin.
Right now it still looked flat, like nothing had changed. But it was a trick. Soon enough
that tight belly would round with our pups, and the thought hit me so hard it almost
hurt.
She was already the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen.
And I was going to get to see her carrying what we made together.
“Ryder,” she breathed, gaze dropping to my hand. “I can’t wait to meet them.”
“Me neither,” I admitted. Then, because I’m still me, I added, “And I can’t wait to get you
back to our room.”
“Ryder!” She swatted at me, scandalized. “Iron Fang can hear you.”
I chuckled anyway, fingers skimming along her ribs until she sucked in a sharp breath.
“Ryder Blackwood,” she hissed, whispering like that made it less serious.
“Alright,” I said, surrendering-temporarily. “I’ll be good. For now.” I tipped my head toward her. “Let’s plan the celebration. We need to thank everyone… then send them on

their way.”
Her eyes narrowed, amused.

“I’m thinking,” I continued, “we throw the party, do the proper thing, and then we
disappear for a bit. We could use it.”
Bridget perked up.
“My family has a private island off the coast. Between Catalina and Hawaii. It doesn’t
show up on maps. We can teleport in, shut the world out, and take a baby moon before
the pups get here.”
She stared at me like I’d announced I was the moon.
“Hold on,” she said slowly. “You have an island? A private island?”
I corrected her without missing a beat. “We have an island. Pack property. Family-held.” I
shrugged. “My parents got it years ago when they met. Gift from my mom’s side.
They’re… loaded.”
Her mouth fell open.
“You say that like it’s casual,” she said.
I smiled. “Babe, you’re an Omni-Wolf mated to an Alpha. You’ve been pregnant with
twins-probably with your kind of power-and all of this has happened in three
months.” I brushed a kiss near her temple. “Nothing about us is normal.”
She looped her arms around my neck, laughing under her breath. “Fair. I’ve got nothing
to say to that.” Then her eyes brightened again. “You really think they’ll have my
powers? That’s insane. At least they’ll start training early.”
Before anything else could be said, we felt it-the shift in the air, the subtle warning of
someone approaching.
The door eased open.
Josephine stepped back in with her coffee. She offered Bridget tea, and Bridget accepted
with an easy smile. I watched Bridget stir it with her finger like it was nothing, her power
checking for poison without drawing attention. Quiet. Clean. Getting sharper.
“Thank you, Ms. Josephine,” Bridget said.

“Of course, dear.” Josephine sipped her coffee, then tilted her head. “How far along are you?”
Bridget froze. “I… how did you know?”
Honestly, I was surprised it hadn’t come up earlier. Pregnancy changes scent-wolf or not. Bridget’s has been different, layered with the pups. Still, Josephine had only just arrived. This was the first time she’d been close enough to pick anything up.
Josephine laughed like it was the easiest thing in the world. “I was a midwife back in my
pack. I could sense a pup so fast it was almost unfair. Minutes after conception sometimes.” She beamed at us. “You two are going to have a beautiful, powerful pup-
pups. This pack is going places.”
Bridget relaxed, smiling. “Thank you. Do you have family in your pack?”
Josephine’s expression softened. “I had a mate. He passed on.” She lifted her shoulders,
grief tucked neatly away. “It’s been just me for a long time. But I stayed. I’ve helped
deliver so many babies that they’re all like my grandchildren.”
“They’re lucky to have you,” I told her.
That’s when Iron Fang moved for real.
His eyelids lifted, squinting against the light, and the whole room seemed to hold its breath. Josephine stood so quickly she nearly spilled her coffee, hands clasped tight,
smiling so wide it looked like it might crack her face.
I didn’t hesitate.
‘Dr. Yvette, he’s awake,’ I sent through the mind-link.
Iron Fang’s voice came out rough, but clear. “I heard I was going to be an uncle.”
Bridget lit up, pure joy, and reached for his hand. She was still sitting on my lap, but she
leaned forward like she couldn’t help it. Then she looked back at me with a grin that
could’ve powered the whole castle.
“Yes,” she said, eyes shining. “Yes, you are.”
For a second I wasn’t sure it had fully hit her: he wasn’t just awake. He was talking to
her.

“Ivan! You’re awake!” Josephine bent down and wrapped him in a careful hug.
He let out a weak laugh. “Hi, Mom.”
Bridget blinked. “Ivan…” She sounded like she’d discovered treasure. “That’s your name?
And you’re talking!”
Josephine laughed again, delighted. “Oh, he’ll talk you to death when he’s better. He
used to get in trouble in school constantly for it. They’d move his seat, and he’d just
make new friends wherever they put him. Never worked.”
Bridget glanced between them, then back at him. “Iron Fang?” she asked, confused but
amused. “Wow. I can’t wait to actually talk with you. Like-really talk.”
“Easy,” I told her, keeping my tone light. “Baby steps, Omni-Wolf.”
Iron Fang dipped his chin, gratitude clear even without words.
“If Josephine thinks her son is chatty,” I added under my breath, “she hasn’t heard you
when you’re excited.”
Bridget elbowed me gently.
“We need him at one hundred percent first,” I said, louder.
“Okay,” Bridget agreed, already shifting to stand. “Come on, Ryder. Let’s give him room.
Dr. Yvette will be here any second.”
Right on cue, the door opened again and Dr. Yvette stepped in. Josephine’s eyes flicked
to Bridget in a way that told me she wasn’t only sensing babies-she was picking up
more than she let on.
Bridget smiled at Iron Fang. “Rest. We’ve got a party to plan, and I need you standing
beside me for it, sir.”
“Yes, Luna,” Iron Fang rasped.
Bridget’s POV
Getting back to the castle felt like exhaling after holding my breath too long. We had
dinner delivered straight to the room, and the second the trays arrived I knew exactly
what I needed.
Cheeseburger. Steak fries. Oreo milkshake-extra cherries.

Ms. Rebecca had also tucked in the fruit parfait I’ve been eating with every meal lately. Like clockwork. These babies are obsessed.
Ryder and I were in bed facing each other, our trays balanced on either side. I caught him
watching me as I dipped a fry into the milkshake.
“I love watching you eat,” he said, voice low.
“Mmm,” I hummed, grinning. “So good.” Half my burger was already gone, and I was
eyeing his like it had personally offended me by existing.
He narrowed his eyes. “Don’t even look at my burger unless it’s on behalf of the babies.”
I hit him with my best innocent expression-full puppy-dog.
“It is for the babies,” I insisted, leaning closer.
He gave in and offered a bite.
I took it and sighed dramatically. “Mmm. Okay, your burger is better than mine.”
Ryder smirked. “Ms. Rebecca adores me. I’m pretty sure I’m her favorite.”
I stuck my tongue out at him. “Please. Wait until I show her the most perfect babies in
existence. Whatever favorite status you think you’ve got? Gone.”
His laugh rolled deep through the room, warm and unstoppable.
And Goddess-he’s beautiful.
Every single part of him.
