Chapter 101 A lil razzle dazzle…

Bridget’s POV

Sometimes you end up tied to a person you shouldn’t even click with. No shared

hobbies. No matching personalities. Nothing you can point at and say, that’s why.

And I don’t mean tied like romance. Not love. Not mates. More like a silent thread-

maybe made out of old scars and the kind of fear you don’t talk about.

That’s what happened with Iron Fang and me.

He showed up in my orbit when I was still trying to figure out what I even was. A

werewolf. An Omni-Wolf. A Luna mated to a powerful Alpha. I’m still learning all of it.

But he was there anyway-always close, never judging, never offering commentary.

Just… present.

It’s the strangest connection I’ve ever had, and I haven’t had many to compare it to.

Foster care doesn’t exactly hand you lifelong friends. You learn to watch your back. You

learn not to need anyone.

At Blackwood Rowen Pack, for the first time, I started building real bonds-people who

weren’t temporary. People who were becoming my family.

And then there was Iron Fang.

He’s huge, like a walking cliff face. If I hadn’t heard him speak directly to Ryder before, I

might’ve believed he literally couldn’t. He trailed me everywhere. Always him and

another warrior, but it was him that felt constant-part of the day the way brushing my

teeth is.

Then former Queen Eleanor decided I was disposable, as long as it benefited her mate.

The king.

Iron Fang didn’t hesitate. He put himself between me and her weapon.

He took the blade meant for my heart.

I saw the blood. I saw him struggling, choking on it, while they dragged me away. And then I was taken-kidnapped-without ever finding out what happened after.

When I finally came back, I learned he had been kept in a doctor-induced coma so his

heart could attempt to mend. Dr. Yvette has kept me updated since my return. I’ve spent

afternoon after afternoon sitting near his bed.

He coded three times.

They brought him back three times.

He’s a stubborn, old mule of a man, and I need him to heal-if only so he can go back to

ignoring me in silence like he always did. You know. Friendship.

Ryder is in his office. I was in our suite, trying to recover from the whole herring-fish

disaster courtesy of Luna Kendra. She has checked on me three times since breakfast to

apologize, and I accepted. Family forgives.

Besides, I’m pretty sure she’s already planning how to claim first dibs on the

grandbabies I’m carrying.

I’m just about to leave to visit Iron Fang again when I open the door and find two new

warriors posted outside, waiting.

Before I can even greet them, a mind-link hits me like a punch.

‘Luna Bridget, we need you at the hospital. It’s Iron Fang.’ Dr. Yvette.

My hand flicks in a hurry-up gesture at the guards.

‘On my way, Dr. Yvette.’

I pivot and head straight for Ryder.

At his office door, I knock. “Come in,” he calls.

I step inside and the words come out shaky. “Ryder… it’s Iron Fang.”

My eyes burn immediately. Hormones surge like they’re trying to drown me from the

inside. Pregnancy is really doing the most.

“Dr. Yvette said we need to get to the hospital right away.”

Ryder is moving before I finish. “Let’s go.”

We rush down, and there’s already a car waiting. The moment we’re inside, Ryder laces.

his fingers through mine.

“You know you don’t have to knock,” he says, voice softer than the urgency in his

posture. “Not on my office.”

“I didn’t even think,” I admit. “Ryder… why did you choose Iron Fang for my detail?”

His gaze stays forward, focused, but his grip tightens slightly. “Because I knew his

loyalty to the pack was unbreakable. I knew if I couldn’t reach you-if my men couldn’t-

he would. Every time. No matter what it cost him.”

“He’d protect you with his life,” he finishes.

A weak smile tugs at me, more desperation than humor. “I thought powerful Alphas

hated having unmated males around their mate.”

Ryder exhales. “Bridget… he lost his first mate. After that, he changed. He took a vow of

silence. The only person he spoke to was me-out of respect.”

He glances at me then, eyes steady. “I also knew he needed someone to pull him back toward life. And you needed someone who didn’t tiptoe around you. Someone who

wouldn’t treat you like glass.”

“Oh… goddess.” My throat tightens. “I figured he’d lost his mate. I just… I hope he gets

another chance. A second mate.”

“Me too, love.”

We pull up to the pack hospital. I try to hurry inside, but Ryder won’t let me bolt. He

gives me that look-the one that says pregnant, remember?

I force myself to slow, even though every cell in my body is screaming to run.

We reach his floor, and the sound hits first.

Alarms.

The frantic chatter of machines.

People moving too fast.

“He’s coding!” someone shouts.

“Paddles-now!” another voice snaps.

Dr. Yvette is already at his bedside, rushing meds straight into his chest. My vision blurs,

tears falling before I can even wipe them away.

I can’t watch him die because of me.

Ryder tries to steer me back. I don’t move.

I’m solid stone.

At least right now, I am.

“Bridget,” Ryder says, trying to catch my eyes, “let them work.”

“He’s in that bed because of me,” I choke out.

“No,” Ryder answers, firm. “He’s there because an evil woman tried to kill you. This isn’t

on you.”

He doesn’t understand-not fully. Before this place, nobody ever stood in front of danger

for me. Nobody had my back.

Iron Fang barely spoke to me at all, except in the last twenty-four hours, when he

complimented my gown.

That was through a mind-link.

And still.

I can’t lose him.

“No heartbeat…” someone says, and the words feel like a blade.

“Paddles,” Dr. Yvette orders.

The shock makes my stomach twist.

“Doctor, his heart can’t handle much more,” someone warns.

Dr. Yvette’s eyes flick to Ryder. I see it-the silent mind-link between them, the instant

exchange.

Something in me panics.

“No!” I shout. “Don’t stop!”

Ryder’s face tightens. “Bridget… his heart can’t take it.”

I shake my head hard. “No. I-I can fix him.”

“Bridget.” Ryder’s voice drops, heavy. “It’s too late.”

He tries to pull me into his arms. I wrench away.

I lean down over Iron Fang, close to his ear, and my voice breaks into a whisper. “Don’t

you dare leave me. I need you. I need you to help me protect these babies.”

I swallow air that won’t go down. “You’re going to be an uncle.”

Tears spill onto my cheeks, hot and unstoppable.

And then-

The flat, continuous tone.

The line.

The silence inside the noise.

It’s the loudest, most horrifying sound I’ve ever heard.

Ryder’s hand touches my arm, and my legs finally give. I fold into him, sobbing like I’m

the one who can’t breathe.

The machine stops.

Inside my head, I reach for my wolf.

‘Mystique, help me. Please.’

I feel her attention snap toward me, ears up.

‘Bridget, I must protect the babies. But listen… someone else may help.’

Another presence slides forward-cooler, sharper.

‘I am Alessandra, your vamp side. If you want to save him, you must bite him. Now.

Before his blood is cold.’

“What?” I say aloud, startled, and I turn a confused stare on Ryder.

He heard it too.

He lets me go.

I spin back to Iron Fang, grab his wrist, and before fear can talk me out of it, my canines

sink into his skin.

Warm blood floods my mouth.

I drink.

And in that act, I sire him to me for life.

My eyes burn; I know they’ve gone red. His blood isn’t like Ryder’s-nowhere near as

sweet.

Goddess, I need more of Ryder.

My body starts to tremble, something feral rising.

Ryder’s voice cuts through my head.

‘Enough, Bridget. Enough.’

The command yanks me back.

I release Iron Fang’s arm.

My eyes settle, returning to their hazel honey color.

Ryder wipes the blood at the corner of my mouth with a careful thumb.

We both look to the bed.

Nothing changes.

Not yet.

I lift my hands over Iron Fang’s chest, hovering inches above his heart, and I push my

power into him-into the idea of rhythm, into the memory of life.

He won’t be fully vampire. I can feel that truth in the magic as it moves. He’ll have pieces.

of it, but he’ll still be mostly werewolf.

Then the monitors flare back on as if someone flipped a switch.

A heartbeat stutters.

Then steadies.

I let out a breath I didn’t realize I had been holding.

Dr. Yvette checks him, listens, confirms. She straightens, slides the stethoscope back

around her neck, and a relieved smile finally appears.

“So glad to have the Omni-Wolf on our team.”
