Chapter 62 Let’s talk..
Bridget’s POV
“Bridget… sweetheart, wake up.” Ryder’s voice drags me out of sleep.

I stretch and blink into the dark to find him crouched beside the bed. The sight of him almost makes me smile-until I register how set his expression is.
“What time is it?” I ask, pushing myself upright. It’s still pitch-black outside.
“Just after two.” His tone stays grim. “I’m sorry, but there’s someone here. I need you to
come see him.”
My stomach tightens. “Ryder, what’s happening? You’re freaking me out. Who is it?”
He hesitates like he hates every word. “Lord Jude of the Seven Isles. A vampire. He says
you’re his mate.”
I freeze. Someone actually found me?
“How could that even-ar

“He’s confident.” Ryder’s jaw flexes. “That’s why you got the lavender roses.” He watches me carefully. “I want you to meet him… if you want. I can send him away. Or I
can kill him. Just say it.”
I blow out a hard breath and throw the blankets back. “Let me get dressed first.”
“Okay. I’ll wait.”
He sits on the edge of the bed, eyes on me, while I grab jeans and a white sweater. I tie
my hair into a ponytail with fingers that suddenly feel clumsy.
When I turn, Ryder’s already close. “Perfect,” he murmurs, his thumb sliding over my
neck.
Not just my neck-his mark. Clear. Unhidden. Deliberate.
I give him a small, knowing smirk. “Ready?”
He takes my hand, and we head out.
I want this done fast. The longer it stretches, the more my nerves pile up.

What if I do feel something when I look at him?
‘What if we don’t?’ Mystique counters, calm as ever.

Ryder squeezes my hand harder. “You okay? I’m right here. Whatever happens, I’m
beside you. Okay?”
I tip my head up at him. “Thank you, babe. I mean it.”
His smile is brief, but real, as he leads me into his office.
There are guards outside. Guards inside. And in the center of it all, a man sits with his
back to me, dressed in a high-collared coat edged in black and gold. Dark curls spill over
the fabric.
He turns.
Emerald eyes. Cream-toned skin. A neat mustache and a carefully shaped beard. Striking. Polished. The kind of handsome people notice without meaning to.
I wait.
For the rush. For the pull. For sparks, butterflies-anything.
Nothing arrives.
I tilt my head, studying him anyway. “Hello. I’m Luna Bridget. The Omni-Wolf.”
His face brightens. “My-you’re even lovelier than the stories claim. Lord Jude of the Seven Isles.” He dips his head. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.”
“How did you even hear about me?”
“News travels,” he says smoothly. “Especially news like this. The Omni-Wolf. A beauty
unmatched.”
Ryder’s growl cuts low through the room.
I touch his arm as he sits, grounding him. He responds by pulling me straight onto his
lap.
I don’t argue. I can feel how badly he needs the reassurance, the proof of us, right now. If
some she-wolf walked in and claimed him, I’d probably be ready to tear the house down.
I look back at Jude. “What do you want from me, Lord Jude?”

His gaze doesn’t waver. “To verify you are my mate-and to claim you as such.”
“And if I’m not?” I keep my voice even. “Do you leave without a problem?”
“I would prefer peace,” he answers. “And cooperation. My coven still has interest in
alliance. Your land is powerful.”
He glances toward Ryder, and for the first time Ryder’s grip loosens slightly.
I don’t soften what I say next. “I feel no spark. No bond. Nothing like what I have with my
werewolf mate. There’s no romantic pull at all.”
Jude’s mouth quirks. “You’re far from home, in the arms of your mate. Would you come
closer?”
“The distance isn’t the issue,” I reply. “And I’m not looking for additional mates. Ryder is
who I want. I’m sorry you traveled this far to claim someone who isn’t available.”
His expression stays controlled, but there’s a tightness behind it. “You’re new to the way
our world works. I’m asking for a private conversation-one-on-one. No guards. No mate
hovering.”
“Not happening,” Talon snarls from the side.
Jude’s eyes flash to him. “She is my mate as much as yours. I am owed time with her.”
I straighten. “I don’t need either of you speaking over me. I’m right here.”
The room goes quiet.
I keep going. “I get that this is complicated. It’s complicated for me too. But I’m handling
it.” I look to Ryder. “Clear the room. Everyone out except me, Lord Jude… and one top-
ranking vampire you trust.”
“Bridget-” Ryder starts.
“Trust me,” I say, holding his gaze.
He exhales, then mind-links someone.
Minutes later, there’s a knock.
“Come in,” Ryder calls.
As the guards file out, a woman steps inside.

“Bridget, this is Mistress Nikolai,” Ryder says. “Highest ranking on our lands. Direct
descendant of Dravius himself. Purest bloodline. Wise. Knowledgeable. I trust her with
my life.”
I stand and take her hand. “It’s good to see you again. We met briefly at the ball.”
She’s tall and elegant, with almond-shaped eyes and golden skin. Her hair is split
perfectly down the middle-one side jet black, the other a vivid red. She looks no older
than her thirties.
“Thank you, Luna, for including me,” she says. Then, to Ryder, “Your praise is generous.”
Her gaze shifts to Jude. “Lord Jude.”
“Mistress Nikolai.” He bows his head. “An honor.”
Ryder turns to me, voice low but loud enough for Jude to catch every word. “I’ll be right
outside this door. If you need me, breathe weird and I’ll be in here.”
I manage a small smile. “Thanks, Ryder.”
I kiss him, quick but steady, and he leaves.
Even with the door between us, I can feel his heartbeat like an echo under my skin. I hate
how uncertain he feels. I hate that my position-my power-makes him think he might
have to share me.
I face the table. “All right. Let’s do this.”
Food has been brought in, untouched. We take seats. Mistress Nikolai settles beside me.
Jude sits across.
His tone turns careful. “Luna Bridget… is it true you are meant to have other mates?”
“The elders love their prophecies,” I say, lifting my glass. “But I decide what happens to
A flicker of approval passes through him. “That’s the voice of a leader. I respect it.”
“Thank you.” I sip my wine, then set the glass down. “Tell me something. How long have you been waiting for your mate? Have you had others? Multiple?”
Jude’s gaze turns distant. “I had a mate centuries ago. Villagers killed her.”
My chest tightens. “I’m sorry.”

“In our culture, multiple mates can mean multiple descendants,” he continues. “But she was it for me. Until I learned about you.”
“I’m truly sorry for what you lost.”
He gives a restrained nod. “Time doesn’t close every wound.”
The thought of Ryder gone is unbearable. My mind refuses to even hold it for long.
I set my hands flat on the table. “Let’s stop circling it. Can we shake hands and see if
there’s anything there?”
“Of course, Luna.”
We both stand.
Mistress Nikolai watches with the stillness of someone observing a verdict being
delivered.
I extend my right hand. My pulse thumps so hard it feels loud. A simple handshake
shouldn’t carry this much weight-yet it could rewrite everything.
Our fingers near each other. I almost pull back.
But I don’t.
Our palms meet.
Nothing.
No spark. No jolt. No fluttering warmth. Not even a strange twist of recognition.
Relief hits me so fast it’s dizzying.
I look at Jude and let a genuine smile break through as we release.
I sit back down. “Here’s what I can offer. We bring my husband in, and we negotiate a
deal between this pack and your coven-for goods, support when needed. Mutual
respect. Friendship. That’s it. Nothing else.”
Jude’s shoulders ease a fraction. “Thank you, Luna. I would welcome an agreement with this pack and the Alpha.”
“Ryder,” I call.

I speak clearly. “There’s no bond. We won’t be linked as mates. But we’d like to arrange an alliance between the pack and his coven. I want you to handle it.”
Ryder’s smile turns bright-aimed at me. “Happily, Luna.”
I glance at Jude. “Do you want to do this now, or wait until breakfast?”
“I’m a night owl,” Jude says, a touch of humor finally slipping through.
“Now it is,” Ryder decides. “Let’s proceed.”
He calls his men in to draft papers. I stay beside him, reading every line, making sure the
terms are solid.
Hours pass before ink dries and hands part.
We have a new ally.
And I don’t have a new mate.
For a few minutes, everything feels balanced.
Until the unanswered question creeps back in-who sent the other flowers, and that text
message?
