Chapter 74 Grandma Celia…

Connor’s POV

“Grandma?”

I’m strapped to an IV and a mess of wires, and I’m still reaching for Evelyn like that’s the only thing that matters. I don’t understand why her instinct was to drop to the floor, but there she is flat-out panicked.

“Well, well. Look at that,” Grandma Celia says, amusement dripping off every word. “My grandson’s finally perking up?”

“Give me a second!” I scramble, yanking the sheet up to cover Evelyn.

“Alright, alright.” She waves a hand like she’s doing me a favor. “I’ll step out so you can hide those ‘goddess-crafted’ parts. Kids are so dramatic these days.”

She backs out, laughing as the door shuts.

And where the hell were Evelyn’s guards? No warning, no nothing. I’m going to destroy

them at the next session-laps until they’re dry-heaving.

Evelyn’s already dressing like she’s racing a clock. “That was fantastic,” she snaps, arms

flying into sleeves. “I told you to lock the door. Do you enjoy living on my bad side?”

I sink into the hospital bed, hands behind my head, watching her pull herself together while my brain replays what she looked like on top of me. “Most of the time, ending up

on your bad side ends with me buried inside you. I can live with it.”

“You…”

For once, she’s got nothing. She just shakes her head, blows out a breath, and grabs her

bag. “I’m leaving. I need a shower. And… I’m glad you’re doing better.”

She turns for the door.

I move fast, catching her and pulling her back between my legs, my body braced against the mattress. She fights out of habit, but she’s not going anywhere.

“I want you around,” I tell her, arms banded around her waist. “When I’m out of here.”

She lifts her chin. “Why? So you can ‘not reject’ me again?”

I lean in, voice low. “I can smell myself on you. Still leaking. Drake and I both love it-me

mixed with your citrus.”

“Connor…”

“Say I can see you.” I tighten my hold. “You know I’ll show up either way.”

She exhales like she’s trying to win a war against her own smile. “Fine.”

“Good. Now kiss me.”

She swallows, then bends in. Her lips are soft and full, and the second I slide my tongue

into her mouth she makes this quiet little sound that hits me straight in the chest. My

hand finds her ass, gripping.

“I have to go,” she breathes, breaking away.

She cracks the door, checks both directions, and slips out like a thief.

That night, I wear Dr. Kira down until she finally agrees to let me leave. I tell her there’s

someone I need close-someone who speeds up the healing just by being near.

She gives me the look, then relents anyway, with rules attached. Back in the morning. No

heavy lifting. No training.

Fine.

The only thing I plan to lift is Evelyn.

I’m in her room not long after, peeling off my clothes and sliding into her bed. She stirs.

“What are you doing here?” she murmurs, thick with sleep.

“Doctor’s orders,” I lie smoothly, and pull her in. “I need you close. It helps. Go back to

sleep.”

I spoon her, her body warm and real against mine. It’s ridiculous how right it feels. She

tucks her face into my chest and drapes a leg over me like she’s claiming territory.

I want her-bad-but exhaustion is dragging me under.

I’ll wake her up properly.

I wake to a sound that could qualify as industrial equipment.

She’s snoring. Loud. Like a freight train in a tunnel.

Her hair is a wreck, tangled everywhere, and she looks like one of those princesses who somehow manages to wake up looking aggressively not-princessy-something about an ice sister. Yeah, I know the movies. I watch them with the kids on movie night.

I’m the favorite uncle.

And looking at Evelyn like this-unfiltered, unguarded-I’m hit with it again. I’m more gone for her than I’ve ever been.

I trace her shape under the sheet, slow and careful. That familiar crackle sparks between us, electric even when she’s half-dead asleep. I dip my mouth to her collarbone, teeth

grazing.

I’m playing with matches, and I know it.

She moans. Her lashes flutter, and then her eyes open, locking on mine.

“Morning, beautiful,” I say, smiling.

“What are you doing in here!” she shrieks, scrambling up the bed like she’s trying to

escape a trap.

“We talked about this last-” I start.

Banging slams against the door.

“Fuck.”

“Evelyn!” Ryder’s voice cuts through. “You okay? Open up.”

Of course it’s him. Of everyone, it’s Ryder.

“I’m fine!” Evelyn calls, too loud. “I saw a spider. A gross, disgusting, horrible spider. I

killed it.”

I’m throwing on clothes like my life depends on it.

“Open the door,” Ryder warns, “or I’m coming through it.”

More noise joins him outside.

There’s no secret exit, and I’m not allowed to launch myself off a third-floor balcony.

Evelyn draws a breath, walks to the door, and turns back to me.

She mutters something under her breath-some chant, I’m guessing-and flicks her gaze

at me like a command.

Be quiet.

Then she yanks the door open, pure attitude, staring up at her brother.

“Want to take the spider?” she asks, pointing with dramatic precision at a shoe in the cor

ner. “The beast is trapped under my boot.”

Ryder scans the room without stepping inside. “Yeah, I can—”

“I’m kidding,” she cuts in. “I’ve got it. I’m fine. Look. Breathing. Alive.”

He studies her like he doesn’t buy a word of it.

“Breakfast,” he finally says. “Private hall. Get dressed. Be down there.”

“Copy that,” Evelyn replies. “Soon.”

She shuts the door before he can answer, hits her privacy button, and whatever she did

releases-because I’m suddenly visible again.

“That was… impressive,” I say, moving closer. “And concerning. Have you done that trick

before?”

Her eyebrow arches. “Grab your clothes and leave. I need a shower, and you need to be

back in the hospital before Ryder decides to drop by.”

“See you at breakfast.”

I steal a kiss, wait until the hallway looks clear, then slip out fast.

After breakfast, Dr. Kira officially clears me, but the restrictions stay. Light duty, no

stupidity.

She folds her arms, looking at me like she’s debating whether to lecture or just sigh.

“You’d heal much quicker if your mate marked you.”

“That’s not happening,” I tell her. “Not anytime soon.”

Kira nods like she expected the answer. “Then your wolf will do the heavy lifting, and it

could take time. You nearly died, Connor. You needed a transfusion. Rest. I’ll inform the

Alpha of my recommendation.”

She pauses, eyes sharp. “Still-think about what I said. Especially if you already know who she is.”

“Copy that, doctor.”

I leave and head back to the pack house. I need a full report on what went down while I was held.

On the way to my office, I pass the game room.

I hear her before I see her-pool balls clacking, her voice carrying.

I’m smiling as I step in.

Then I see who she’s with.

My cousin Alpha Get-A-Clue himself-standing too close, his arm around my woman.

“Cousin!” Patrick grins. “You’re up! Feeling better?”

I just stare at his hand like it’s a problem that needs solving.

Move it.

I shoot the words into his head.

His face tightens, surprise flashing. He hadn’t realized I could mind-link him.

Guess that Omni-Wolf power rubbed off more than I thought.

Patrick pulls his hand back and keeps staring at me like he wants answers.

He’s not getting them.

I walk straight to Evelyn, take her hand, and lace our fingers.

“I need to talk to you,” I say.

Then, to Patrick: “Alone.”

He lifts both hands. “Sure. Everything okay?”

Evelyn looks up at me as I lead her out. “Did Kira clear you?”

I don’t answer. Instead, I spot an unused office and drag her inside.

I press her back against it and kiss her like I’ve been starving. She doesn’t resist-she

melts, hands sliding into my hair, pulling me closer.

My fingers work her jeans open and shove them down.

I lock the door behind her.

Her shirt is next-over her head, tossed away. Too much fabric, too many barriers.

I strip the rest fast, tearing her bra and panties free like they’re in my way, because they

are.

I lift her, and she wraps around me-legs tight at my waist.

I carry her to the couch and lower her slowly, like I’m trying to savor the second before it

all snaps.

“I’ve been needing to be inside you again since last night,” I groan.

She’s already unzipping my slacks. “Did you miss me?” I ask.

“Yes,” she breathes, and slides her hand into my boxer briefs to free me.

Her small, warm grip nearly wrecks me.

She lines me up.

I push in-slow, controlled, almost cruel with it.

“Please,” she begs.

“Please what?” I stop, holding myself still until she’s grinding desperately for friction.

“Use your words, baby.”

Her voice breaks. “I need you. Please. Fuck me, Connor.”

That’s all it takes.

I hold her leg with one hand and drive deeper, and her body answers mine instantly,

meeting every thrust. My grip shifts to her hips, and I slam into her harder, deeper-until I’m buried, then I slow down again, grinding like I want her to feel every inch.

“Oh, goddess,” she cries.

I kiss her hard to swallow the sound, chasing her edge. Her walls clamp down as she

comes apart around me.

I follow, spilling inside her, pulse and heat and relief all at once.

Minutes later, voices drift down the hall.

Wrong place. Too much traffic on this floor.

We dress in a rush, still kissing, still stealing touches. Evelyn giggles when I won’t stop.

“You go,” she whispers, fixing her hair. “I’ll wait a few minutes.”

I kiss her again anyway, then slip out.

And walk straight into my grandmother.

“Oh! There you are,” Grandma Celia announces brightly. “Just the Beta I was looking for.”

“Hey, Grandma.” I force a smile. “What do you need?”

She hooks her arm through mine like we’re on a casual stroll. “Coffee. Come on. We’ll

catch up.”

Then her whole face drains of color.

Her hand rises and cups my cheek, fingertips trembling. “Oh, Goddess… you have the

curse.”

My stomach drops. Grandma is a full witch-mated a werewolf once, had my mom. But

she hasn’t been around since I was a kid.

“How would you even-”

“What?” is all that comes out.

“The curse,” she says again, staring at me like I’m suddenly a stranger. “Our family’s

curse. You’ve got it.”

My brow knots. “Family curse? What are you talking about? What curse?”

Before she can answer, Evelyn steps into the hall-walking right into us.

“Oh-hello, Grandma Celia,” Evelyn says, too careful, trying not to look uneasy.

“Oh, goddess,” she whispers, voice cracking. “You found her. You found your mate.”

I turn on my grandmother, jaw tight. “Grandma. What aren’t you telling me?”

Her eyes shine with something like regret. “The curse is on the first-born male,” she

admits. “It poisons his mate. The curse…”

She swallows.

“The curse I created.”
