Chapter 81 A dress that turns heads…
Bridget’s POV
Everything is happening at once, and the clock refuses to slow down. I keep picturing the moment after the coronation-when I can finally inhale, let my shoulders drop, and just
be with Ryder. No duties. No rushing. Just us.
Once breakfast and training are out of the way, I head straight for Dr. Kira. There are safeguards I need set up, and waiting feels like gambling.
“Luna Bridget,” she says when she steps into her office and settles behind the desk, “this
is a nice surprise. What can I do for you?”
I take a breath. “I’ve been thinking. I know I can’t fix everything on my own, but… I want you to draw blood and keep it here. If something happens-if someone’s badly hurt-
maybe my blood can help.”
Dr. Kira’s expression softens into something like pride as she stands and goes to her
supply closet. “That’s incredibly generous, Luna. Of course I can. Have you had a vision?”
“No,” I answer, even though my skin prickles with the same warning I’ve been carrying
around. “But I can feel something building. I want to do whatever I can before it hits.”
She returns with the needle and bags, already moving with practiced efficiency. “The
precautions you’re taking say a lot about who you are. This could save lives.”
She cleans my arm, tightens the tourniquet, and finds the vein like she’s done it a
thousand times. The bag starts filling.
“I’m going to run the standard panels too,” she adds, watching the flow. “I want to see whether anything has shifted in your DNA since you arrived. You’ve grown stronger.”
“That’s fine,” I tell her. “But I need this kept private. Ryder knows I’m here, and that’s
enough. Just us three.”
Dr. Kira nods without hesitation. “Agreed. The fewer people who know your blood is
being stored, the better.”
She reaches for gauze and carefully withdraws the needle. “All set, Luna. Two bags is plenty, especially if it’s mixed with regular blood.”

Relief loosens something in my chest. “Thank you. My men are outside, and I still have a mountain of Luna responsibilities. I’ll see you at the coronation tomorrow.”
“I wouldn’t miss it,” she says, walking me to the door. “I’m excited to see your reign begin. This pack has no idea what you’re going to bring.”
“I’ll call if I need you,” I promise.
Outside, Iron Fang and Mason are waiting like statues, attention sharp. They fall into place at my sides as we leave the hospital.
‘Hey love,’ Ryder’s voice slides into my mind-link. ‘The King and Queen will be here within the hour. The hotel is fully opened, and the east wing is prepped-every room ready for the officials.’
‘Perfect,’ I send back as we get into the car and it pulls away. ‘We’re on our way from the hospital now. I’ll be there soon, but I have to meet your mom for my dress fitting in our
chambers-so you need to go find something else to do.’
His amusement hums through the link. ‘Great. And the bloodwork?’
‘Done. Only the three of us know.’
The castle comes into view, white stone gleaming like it’s been polished just for
tomorrow. When we stop, the door opens-and Ryder is already there.
I still don’t understand how I ended up this lucky.
He offers his hand, helps me out, and then pulls me into him. I close my eyes and steal a
second of calm inside his arms.
“Walk me up?” I ask. “Evelyn and your mom are meeting us in our room. Sienna and
Archer too.”
“I’ll have drinks and snacks brought up,” he says as we start toward our chambers, fingers laced with mine. His smile turns wicked. “You need to keep your strength up for our night together after the coronation.”
The moment we step inside, laughter spills through the space, and Luna Kendra’s voice carries over it-firm, directing, in her element.
Three rolling racks of dresses line the room. I already have mine; it just needs to be taken in for tomorrow. The others are still deciding.

“There she is!” Isolde beams the second she sees me. “Hello, Luna Bridget. It’s so
wonderful to see you again!”
She and her assistants bow as if it’s second nature. I’m still adjusting to that part.
“Isolde,” I say warmly, “I’m glad you’re here. Your work is breathtaking.”
Luna Kendra turns toward Ryder with a pointed look. “Okay, Ryder. Out. The dress is
supposed to be a surprise.”
He leans in, kisses me again like he doesn’t care who’s watching, then murmurs through
the link, ‘One mind-link away if you need me.’
‘Copy that, my Alpha,’ I send back, smiling.
He leaves, pulling the door shut behind him. My guards take position outside the
bedroom.
I head straight for the mannequin covered in fabric. “Where is it? I want to see it again.”
Isolde and her assistant, Annette, lift the sheet away.
My dress.
Gold-rich and warm-with lace and beadwork so detailed it looks like it was poured onto the fabric. I don’t waste time. I strip down to my underwear without a second thought. Modesty feels like a past life; I’ve learned how normal the naked body is when you live among wolves.
They guide me into the gown. Spaghetti straps. Form-fitted. It hugs every curve like it
was made from my breath.
Gold, the family color. Luna Kendra told me Lunas have been wearing it since the first
Luna claimed this land.
“Oh, Bridget,” Evelyn gushes, staring at me in the three-paneled mirror. “You look
radiant.”
Adrian-standing close enough to squeeze my hand-gives a reluctant nod. “I’ll admit it.
You’re stunning. My brother is going to forget how to act.”
The words land heavier than they should, because they come with something I never
expected to have again.

“Thank you,” I say, voice going soft. “You guys have no idea how happy I am. And Evelyn… I’m glad you didn’t let me push you away when I kept turning down your invites.”
My eyes sting.
Sienna lounges on the couch with a glass of wine, grinning. “She never quits once she decides something.”
Evelyn lifts her shoulders in a smug little shrug. “When you know, you know.”
Luna Kendra steps in before the emotion can spill over. “No tears on the gown.” She smiles at the others. “You two-go try yours on.”
As the girls move back toward the racks, Luna Kendra’s gaze returns to me, softer now. “You’re beautiful, Bridget. Your parents are smiling down. They’re proud.”
The ache in my chest sharpens. “I wish they were here. I wish they could see this… meet all of you.”
A tear escapes anyway.
Luna Kendra wipes it away with her thumb like it’s the simplest thing in the world. “They are with you. In you. Always.”
She presses a tissue into my hand.
‘You okay, babe?’ Ryder’s mind-link brushes against mine, immediate. ‘I can feel you.”
I let out a small laugh as I dab at my face. ‘I’m okay. Just… got hit with missing my
parents. I wish they could see me now.’
The difference still amazes me-going from alone in the world to having a mate who
senses my highs and my crashes before I even speak.
‘They are there with you,’ he sends back, steady and sure. ‘And you have all of us now. All right, my love?’
‘Yes, Alpha. I won’t forget,’ I reply.

I end the link as Isolde steps in to check the fit. She pins at my waist with quick, precise fingers, marking where she’ll take it in.
Across the room, Evelyn appears in a strapless silk gown that looks like it was designed to make people stop breathing. One by one, we all take turns admiring, circling, reacting -little bursts of awe filling the space.
“Isolde,” Luna Kendra says, and she truly does glow-her own beaded gold gown edged with a red backing like flame, “you’ve outdone yourself again.”
Isolde bows her head, pleased. “Thank you, Luna Kendra. It’s an honor that you chose my designs.”
I know she runs the boutique downtown, creates every piece herself, sells locally and online. The kind of talent you can’t teach.
When we change back into our clothes, Isolde’s team begins packing the gowns carefully for transport.
“I’ll have your alterations finished within the hour, Luna Bridget,” Isolde promises. “Then we’ll deliver everything.”
“Thank you,” I tell her.
The second she turns away, I drop onto the couch like my bones have turned to sand.
Archer hands me a glass of wine. “Here.”
Trying on clothing shouldn’t feel like battle training, but somehow it does.
Luna Kendra stays near the door, finishing a few last words with Isolde.
I glance at Evelyn again-and this time I don’t miss it. The mark.
“So,” I say once Luna Kendra has stepped away, keeping my voice light, “I think
congratulations are definitely in order.”
Evelyn’s smile goes dreamy, like she’s floating. “Yeah. We hesitated for a second, you
know? With the curse and everything. But we marked, and we’re still here.” She laughs, the sound bright.
“I love that we can laugh about all this now,” Archer adds.
Sienna smirks. “Especially since Archer was about one heartbeat away from challenging.

Archer-quiet, shy Archer-flushes, and I can’t help smiling at the memory of her sheer.
blunt fury at Connor.
Then one of the staffers appears at my side, holding out a card. “Luna, you have a
message.”
It’s sealed in a red envelope.
For a second, I assume it’s Ryder. The room is still full of laughter as I slide my finger
under the flap and open it.
Dearest Luna Bridget,
It is with the utmost urgency that I speak to you privately. It is a matter of life and death. Can you meet me in the labyrinth at 7 pm?
Sorcerer Lysander Rothwell
Personal Assistant to the King
My pulse kicks.
I look up fast, scanning faces-no one is watching me, no one has noticed anything shift.
Questions crash into each other. Why now? Why alone? Why the labyrinth?
It’s already after six.
I need Ryder.
‘Ryder, are you free?’ I push through the mind-link.
Nothing.
He’s unavailable-I can feel the walls up. A meeting. Something important.
The warning in my gut tightens, and the thought hits like a cold blade: this feels like the
vision I had.
If it involves King Griffin and Queen Eleanor, I can’t ignore it.
I slide my feet back into my tennis shoes and stand as casually as I can. Then I head for
the door.

Outside, his gaze meets mine immediately.
“I have to step out,” I tell him under my breath. “You’re coming with me.”
He gives a single nod, already moving.
