Bridget’s POV

“Oh my goddess-Bridget, you look incredible!” Ms. Miriam cries, swiping at the tears

gathering in her eyes.

“You really do,” Evelyn says softly, and I stare at myself in the three-panel mirror like I’m

looking at a stranger.

They have moved at lightning speed, and I have been waxed, plucked, and shellacked in

places I didn’t even know could be dealt with. The dress hugs me like it was poured on.

My hair falls down my back in soft curls threaded with braids, pinned with tiny golden

flowers that catch the light.

I have never looked like this. I can’t stop blinking.

“Thank you,” I manage, my voice thin. “Ms. Miriam. Evelyn. Wow. I guess… this is it.” The

nerves finally hit, sharp and immediate.

“You’ve rehearsed. You’re ready, Luna Kendrá assures me

“Yes,” Adrian adds, honest as always, “except now there are several thousand people

watching.”

Everyone turns on her at once. My lungs forget what they’re doing.

“Adrian,” Evelyn snaps.

Adrian steps closer anyway and takes my hands. Heat sinks into my skin, steadying me.

‘You’ve got this,’ she mind-links, firm and certain. ‘You’re doing it. You’re going to be

amazing.’

The smile comes before I can stop it.

“Thanks,” I whisper. I inhale, then force my shoulders back. “Okay. Let’s do this.”

“Hold on,” Luna Kendra says, stopping me at the door. “Ryder asked me to give you

something. A gift.”

She places a rectangular box in my hands-blue velvet, heavy with significance.

“We were supposed to exchange gifts?” My panic spikes. “That was not in Luna training!”

Luna Kendra laughs under her breath. “No. It isn’t required. But… it’s what we wanted. For you.”

My fingers hesitate before I lift the lid.

Inside, a deep blue stone rests in a nest of velvet, framed by diamonds that glitter like ice. It’s stunning in a way that makes me afraid to breathe on it.

“Oh wow,” I say, barely touching the edge. “It’s… beautiful.”

“That benitoite belonged to my great-great-great-grandmother, Luna Ivanna,” Luna

Kendra explains, her smile proud and tender. “Ryder had it set. He added the diamonds

and had it made into a necklace for you.”

My throat tightens. “It’s too special. I can’t-this is… I shouldn’t wear something like this.

I just…”

Evelyn steps in, eyes shining. “Bridget, you’re family now. Those stones represent where

we’ve been-and where we’re going. And you are in that future. We want you to know

you belong with us. Always.”

I let out a broken laugh that turns into tears. “Great. Now I’m going to need my makeup

fixed.”

They laugh with me as Adrian dabs at my face with a handkerchief. Luna Kendra comes

behind me and fastens the necklace at my throat. Against the gold of my outfit, the blue

looks even richer-like a piece of night sky.

“Now,” Luna Kendra says, satisfied, “we can go.”

At the door, Iron Fang waits in a suit, hair slicked back and neat, looking almost unreal.

‘Iron Fang, you look so nice,’ I mind-link as he falls into step beside me.

‘You look beautiful, Luna,’ he answers.

I jerk my gaze toward him, stunned. That is the first time he has ever spoken to me-

really spoken, even if it’s in my head. A ridiculous urge rises in me to announce it to

everyone, but there’s a coronation waiting.

I just smile at him and use the handkerchief again, blotting at the last of my tears.

We head toward the back of the property, and the sight steals what breath I have left. The grounds have been remade into a forest dream-endless rows of gold chiavari chairs, draped in green moss and flowers. Wisteria spills over the stage in thick curtains. and the podium is pure glass.

It isn’t a wedding, so there’s no dramatic aisle moment. I’m entering from the side.

I know the steps. I’ve practiced them.

I take my place, and there’s Ryder-impossibly handsome, hair in soft waves pushed away from his face. His suit is black-on-black, the gold accents sharp against it. A gold flower mirrors the ones pinned in my hair.

“My goddess,” he breathes, eyes locked on me. “You’re… perfect. And that necklace— perfect on you.”

He takes my hand. The instant our skin meets, our connection flares and our joined

hands glow.

The crowd reacts-oohs and gasps rippling outward.

“You’re glowing,” Ryder murmurs.

“So are you,” I tell him, because it’s true. It isn’t just me. It’s both of us-like a soft sunset

light blooming under our skin.

Together we move toward the podium.

Ryder has already told me the King and Queen are claiming ignorance-that they knew

nothing about Lysander’s crimes. I don’t buy it. Not for a second.

They sit on one side of the stage, faces set and watchful. Alpha Blackwood and the rest

of the family occupy the other side, steady and united.

As we climb the steps, I finally see the crowd fully.

So many people. So many species, gathered in one place. For all the years Ryder has told me about—the wars, the bloodshed, the walls between them—this feels like a fragile miracle. And everyone is looking at me like I’m the hinge the world might swing

Alpha Marcus stands at the podium, like an older echo of Ryder. When he smiles at me,

it’s calm and confident, as if he’s lending me his certainty.

“Thank you all for joining us for this moment,” Alpha Marcus announces. “The coronation of our Luna and Omni-Wolf, Bridget Winters. We will now perform the ritual that has

been passed down since the first days of our pack.”

A ceremonial wooden bowl is brought forward. Beside it rests a knife with an ancient

handle carved from the same wood, laid carefully on the glass.

I catch the King and Queen watching with sharp, hungry attention.

I drag my focus back where it belongs. If they try anything right now, they’re insane.

“Ryder. Bridget. Step forward,” Alpha Marcus instructs.

We extend our hands.

Luna Kendra stands at her mate’s side holding the bowl steady.

“This blade will join your blood,” Alpha Marcus says, his voice carrying. “It will forge Bridget’s union with this pack-connecting her to every soul within it.”

I’m already capable of speaking to whomever I choose, but that isn’t information anyone

outside the family-and a select few-needs to have.

The knife is placed in Ryder’s hand first. Alpha Marcus slices his palm. Blood drops into

the bowl in slow, dark beads.

Then my palm is cut.

The sting is brief. The blood that follows isn’t. It wells, then falls into the bowl, joining

Ryder’s.

Luna Kendra speaks sacred words under her breath, hands moving over the bowl as if

shaping the air itself.

Alpha Marcus takes our hands and aligns our cuts so the blood mingles in our bodies.

too.

The glow begins immediately.

Bright. Growing.

The light swells around us until it feels like we’re standing inside a living sun. The crowd

goes unnaturally quiet, stunned into stillness as they watch.

Then Alpha Marcus separates our hands.

The light fades down, settling into something softer. Whispers rise, spreading like wind through leaves.

I glance at my palm.

The wound has already closed.

Ryder’s has too.

We curl our fingers in quickly, hiding just how fast it has happened.

“Now that the blood has mixed and the bond has been established,” Alpha Marcus declares, “I present to you Alpha Ryder and Luna Bridget of the Blackwood Rowen

Pack.”

The audience erupts. People stand. Cheering crashes over us.

And then, in the corner of my vision, something flashes.

Metal.

The Queen is moving-charging.

A knife is in her hand.

She is coming straight at me.

The blade lifts high, her face twisted, closing the distance too fast.

Ryder throws himself in front of me.

Iron Fang lunges between us.

The knife hits flesh.

It sinks into his chest.

He drops hard, collapsing to the floor.

“Iron Fang!” My scream tears out of me.

He’s gurgling, choking on blood, eyes wide as his body fights to keep him here.

Ryder and Connor slam into the Queen, taking her down as she shrieks.

“You ruin everything!” she screams at me, wild and furious. “I wish they never found

you!”

Before I can move, explosions thunder from behind the stage.

The shockwave throws me-my feet leave the ground and I hit several feet away. The

world becomes noise and smoke and bodies running.

People are screaming. Scattering.

Ryder scrambles up, trying to reach me.

I push myself upright and see it-shrapnel embedded in my leg, burning.

Smoke blinds me. I force air through my lungs and summon wind, whipping it into a

storm to tear the haze aside so I can see.

The King grabs for me in the confusion.

I react without thinking, power surging.

I shove him back with magic and send him slamming into a wall.

Soldiers pour out-his soldiers–rushing Ryder.

Ryder fights like a force of nature, tossing bodies aside one after another.

Alpha Marcus joins in.

Alpha Patrick.

Alpha Nolan.

Their warriors flood the space and the coronation becomes a battlefield.

Connor reaches me, hands on my arm, trying to drag me away.

I refuse to move.

Instead, I throw a shield over the civilians-power stretching outward, forming a protective dome that encloses them.

I turn back-and the Queen has gotten free.

She’s coming at me again, but she isn’t alone.

A witch moves beside her, already chanting, hands slicing through the air as spells form.

So Lysander was telling the truth about the dark magic.

Luna Kendra responds instantly, her own spell snapping outward.

The Queen freezes mid-stride, locked in place.

Adrian launches herself forward, sliding in close, rising just enough to lean near the Queen’s ear.

She whispers.

Whatever she says, the Queen crumples-collapsing to the ground like her bones have

turned to water.

Connor tries again to pull me. “Bridget-come on.”

“I’m not leaving until I see Ryder,” I insist, searching through the chaos.

The Alphas are still fighting through the cluster of men around him.

Then Ryder breaks through, emerging from the mess-alive.

The breath I’ve been holding finally releases.

I let Connor steer me, limping as we move.

We round a corner-and my blood turns cold.

The King has Evelyn by the throat.

His hand is clamped around her neck, lifting her just enough that her feet scrape.

“No!” Connor and I shout at the same time.

Drake’s presence surges under Connor’s skin. His wolf’s growl rumbles out of him. “Let her go.”

King Griffin’s face is smeared with blood and rage. He sneers. “Shut up, you mutt. I want

the Luna. You can keep your little mate.”

Evelyn’s eyes meet mine, pleading even as she struggles. “Bridget. Connor. Don’t.”

The King squeezes harder.

Her eyes start to roll back.

I try to reach for magic-anything, any spell, any angle-but soldiers slip in behind

Connor and seize him, locking his arms.

“Aht. Aht,” King Griffin tuts, savoring it. “Try it and she dies. Like everyone you love.” His

smile is cruel. “They all die, Bridget. Funny how that keeps happening, isn’t it?”

My hands shake.

Fear floods in, dragging memories with it.

I can’t let him take any more from me. I won’t.

“Let her go,” I say, voice steady only by force. “And I’ll go with you.”

He opens a portal, the air tearing into a dark, shifting doorway.

He curls one finger at me-ugly, beckoning.

“Come to me, Bridget.”

“Bridget, no!” Connor yells, fighting the soldiers holding him.

I look at him and give him the smallest smile I can manage.

“Take care of Ryder,” I whisper.

Just like my vision.

I walk toward King Griffin.

He waits until I’m close enough, then snatches my arm in a bruising grip. He tries to keep

Evelyn too, but I surge with magic and shove her away.

Evelyn stumbles free as the King and I fall into the portal.

Through the rip in the world, I catch a last glimpse-Connor breaking loose as the

soldiers behind him are killed, and Ryder sprinting toward the portal with desperation

written into every line of him.

But it’s too late.

The portal seals shut.

Something strikes my neck-sharp, burning.

The sting blossoms into darkness.

And I black out.
