Chapter 98 A lil snack…
Ryder’s POV
I tried to tune them out. I really did.

But being an Alpha with my Omni-Wolf mate’s abilities humming through my veins
makes that impossible. Sound carries. Too well. Down the hall, through doors-
especially into my own room.
I watch Bridget while Evelyn unloads everything she’s been carrying. All the ugly pieces.
Every detail she never should’ve had to live. My chest tightens with it.
She won’t be stuck handling the fresh nightmares by herself. Not anymore.
I’ve brought up therapy before. She’s not against it-just guarded. Like she doesn’t want the pack picking through her life like it’s public property.
Before the kitchen staff even touches the door, I’m already on my feet. I catch their
approach, open up, and let them file in with trays.
The scent hits first. I sample the air without meaning to, the way Bridget does-testing,
reading, confirming.
No poison.
Somehow I’ve been picking up more and more of what she can do. Every hour near her,
it’s like something in me expands. I don’t even know how else to explain it.
It’s insane. In the best way.
Ms. Rebecca has chosen to stay, and relief sits heavy in my ribs. She’s been here my
whole life. I’m grateful she worked through the guilt, and through whatever mess her
nephew dragged to our doorstep.
And Jolene-Jolene looks like she’s finally stepping into her own life. She grew up in this
place, found her mate, and now she’s carrying her first pup.
That thought slams right into Bridget.
I know we’ve got a thousand things to untangle, but the idea of building a family with
her lights me up. Goddess, she’d be incredible as a mom.

I’m only half present while I talk to Jolene about taking leave. My focus drifts-straight to Bridget.
Stress has been chewing on her for months, but she still looks unreal. Even in lounge
clothes. Even tired. Even after everything.
Then Talon and I snap into the same moment.
“She made those for me every day,” Jolene says, one hand cradling her stomach, “right before I found out I was pregnant.”
Bridget’s eyes flick to Evelyn’s.
Evelyn’s eyes flick right back.
It’s quick, but it lands like a coded message.
I hit Connor with a mind-link immediately.
“Oh-well-we’re not pregnant,” Evelyn blurts, too fast.
“Yeah. We’re definitely not pregnant,” Bridget adds, but she turns toward me afterward,
brows pinched like she doesn’t even believe her own words.
Ms. Rebecca’s mouth tightens. She looks between them, unconvinced. “I’ve been around
a long time and-”
She stops mid-sentence, realizing she’s gone too far.
“Clear the room,” I order, letting my Alpha aura carry it.
“Ryder…” Evelyn starts.
I don’t let her build momentum.
“Ms. Rebecca. Jolene. I am commanding you: what has been said here does not leave this
room. Do you understand?”
“Yes, Alpha,” they answer together.
Bridget stares at me. For the first time in a long time, I can’t read what she’s feeling.
One by one they move out-everyone except my sister.
“Ryder, Ms. Rebecca is not always right,” Evelyn insists, voice rising. “Seriously, come

Connor appears in the doorway like he’s been summoned.
Evelyn’s trying to talk herself out of it. I can hear it. But we both know Ms. Rebecca has
been calling pregnancies before tests since I was a kid-she did it with our mom every
single time.
“Evelyn,” Connor says, calm but final, “let’s go.”
“Connor Reynolds, do not walk in here and tell me what to do!”
He exhales, already done arguing, and scoops her up bridal-style.
She sputters the whole way out. He nods once at me and shuts the door behind them.
Bridget remains where she is, like the floor has disappeared under her.
I step close. “Talk to me. What’s happening in your head right now?”
She blinks, then points at the food like it’s the only stable thing in the world. “That Ms. Rebecca is nuts… but this yogurt looks incredible.”
She crosses the room and digs into the parfait.
Two bites.
Then another.
I slide in, gently take it from her hands.
Her eyes flash gold-just a flicker-but it’s there.
“Bridget,” I warn quietly, “rein in your wolf.”
She tilts her face up. There’s yogurt on her lip.
I wipe it away with my thumb. “Now tell me.’
Her words spill out like she’s been holding her breath for hours.
“It’s just-Ryder, I barely got here. I’m barely back from being taken. The second time, by the way. I’ve got powers I don’t understand. And now I might be pregnant?”
She inhales hard.

“What does that do to a child? What if they’re a target? I cannot-cannot-have
someone coming for my baby. I will kill them.”
Her eyes burn red. The air around her shifts.
Something sharp edges into her aura-vampire, maybe-like it’s answering her fear.
I keep my voice even. “Okay. First thing: we go to Dr. Kira right now. We get checked,
and then we make a plan. But hear me-nothing is happening to you. And nothing is
happening to our kids. Not ever.”
She nods… while still reaching for the parfait like her body refuses to let it go.
Connor’s mind-link cuts in. ‘Dr. Kira is ready for you.’
‘Five minutes,’ I answer. ‘I’m getting my parfait queen dressed.’
A pause. ‘What?’
‘I’ll explain.’
I sever the link and help Bridget tug on fitted jeans and a tank.
Outside, the pack house grounds look almost too peaceful. Blue sky, clean air, normal
birdsong as if the universe didn’t just tilt.
We walk slower than we need to.
Because we both know what the next few minutes might change.
‘No matter what happens,’ I tell her through the bond, ‘I love you. I’m with you.’
‘I know,’ she sends back. ‘That’s the only thing I’m not doubting.’
She gives me a small smile as we enter the hospital.
Fourth floor. Dr. Kira’s office sits between two attached patient rooms.
We knock. She opens the door herself, cheerful as always.
“Alpha Ryder. Luna Bridget. Good to see you.” Her gaze flicks over us. “Big day for
everybody, huh?”
Bridget manages a smile.

I nod toward the closed door on the opposite side. “My sister’s in there?”
Dr. Kira’s grin answers before she does.
We’re ushered into our room. She sets up fast: urine cup, blood draw kit.

“I need you both to understand something,” she says, voice turning clinical. “It may be
too early to confirm. Even bloodwork can miss it at the start. But we’ll check everything
we can.”
Bridget offers her arm.
Dr. Kira draws the blood, collects the sample, and leaves.
I sit on the exam table beside Bridget. She leans into me, resting her head against my
shoulder like she’s borrowing stability.
“Are you okay?” she asks.
“I will be happy either way,” I tell her, fingers threading through hers. “When it’s the
right time, it’ll happen. If it’s now… then it’s now.”
Time drags.
I glance at her. “Did Mystique say anything?”
Her head lifts. “Mystique? I didn’t ask.”
“Wolves usually know before we do,” I remind her.
The door opens on cue.
Dr. Kira walks in with papers in hand, eyes bright. She looks down, then up.
“Congratulations, Luna and Alpha.” Her smile widens. “You’re pregnant.”
My body reacts before my brain catches up-l stand.
Then I sit.
Then I look at Bridget because none of this matters if she’s not okay.
“Bridget…”
“You’re sure?” Her voice barely carries.

“Yes,” Dr. Kira confirms. “I’ll start you on prenatal vitamins today, and we’ll schedule a follow-up in a few weeks. We should be able to do an ultrasound then.”
“Thank you,” I manage, and realize I’ve stood again without noticing.
Dr. Kira studies Bridget. “Luna, are you alright?”
Bridget’s stare sharpens. “But you’re sure it isn’t… I don’t know. A spell? Something
weird done to me?”
I mind-link Talon. ‘Get Mystique. She needs her.’
Bridget’s eyes unfocus for a beat. “Mystique is talking to me now.”
She swallows, breathing through it. “She says it’s real. She says we are pregnant.”
Her throat works again. “That’s why she couldn’t do more at the castle. She was shielding the babies.”
I blink. “Okay. Good. Great-she was protecting…” My pulse spikes. “Wait. Babies?”
Bridget turns her head slightly as if listening, then repeats aloud, “What?”
Her eyes widen as she looks back at me. “Twins. She says it’s twins.”
I’m on my feet again.
This time I don’t fight the grin pulling across my face.
Bridget’s expression breaks into a real smile-soft, stunned, beautiful.
“We really don’t do anything halfway,” she says, breathless. “Twins.”
I wrap my arms around her. Two babies.
Two.
My mind immediately spins off into logistics. “We need a nursery. We need upgraded
security. We need-my mom is going to lose her mind when she finds out.”
Bridget laughs, the sound loosening something tight inside my chest.
“You sound like the pregnant one,” she teases, and then her palm settles against her
stomach like she’s proving it to herself. “Twins,” she whispers.

Dr. Kira smiles and slips out.
Seconds later, a scream rips down the hall.
I bolt out of our room on instinct, forcing Bridget to stay put.

Across the hall, Evelyn is mid-leap into Connor’s arms, shrieking like she’s won a war.
She spots me and practically vibrates. “Ryder! We’re having a baby!”
Connor sets her down, laughing under his breath.
Bridget steps out behind me, still smiling-still glowing like she’s holding sunlight.
“So are we,” she says.
The women collide in a hug like they weren’t involved in any of this at all.
I look at Connor.
He looks back.
We do the same ridiculous scream they just did, then grab each other in a rough hug that
says everything we’re not saying.
Dr. Kira returns with two sets of paperwork and bottles of prenatal vitamins, amused as
she hands them over.
“Mom has been waiting forever for grandbabies,” Evelyn says, beaming at me.
“Yeah,” I answer, careful. “But I think we should hold off telling her. Too much has happened. I want Bridget staying under the radar.”
I shift my gaze to Evelyn. “If you want to share your news, that’s your call.”
Bridget’s smile fades into thought.
“Maybe we wait,” she says slowly. “At least until I’m further along.”
Evelyn scans her paperwork, humming with excitement. “It’s smart… but you know her.
She’ll figure it out.”
“We’ll see,” I say.
And beneath that: we lock down pack lands, tighten security, and make damn sure no

“Good morning, family!” Mom sings out as we enter the private dining hall.
Bridget has been easing back into routine, step by step. So Mom decided breakfast
should be a full group event.
Everyone returns her greeting.
Plates arrive. Steam rises.
Across the table, Evelyn shuts her eyes the second the smells hit her.
Morning sickness didn’t waste time with her.
It didn’t with Bridget either-she’d been up before sunrise, getting sick until there was
nothing left.
Mom watches us all a little too closely, pleased with herself in a way I don’t like.
Then she folds her hands and smiles.
“So,” she says, drawing the word out, “I only have one question.”
The room stills.
“I dreamed about fish last night.” Her gaze travels from face to face. “So which one of
you is pregnant?”
Silence drops over the table like a curtain.
