Chapter 380
He kisses me long enough to remind that I may be an Alpha, but he’s MY Alpha.
Robin
We get the date to meet at Alaric’s pack. I spoke to Kayce about having Zahn’s trial while we’re there. I think because most of our mates are pregnant, we all agree that the less traveling we have to do, the better. And I know for me, the less exposure that Nikki has to Camden and Koden, the better I’ll feel.
Before we leave for Amelia’s pack, though, I want to talk to Nikki. She’ll be returning to her family’s pack. She was part of the Alpha ́ family that ran the pack and many of the pack members will still be there. While I feel her excitement about Reese possibly winning his own pack, I’ve also started to feel her nerves about going home again.
Because I know my mate, and because I know that she’ll fight to come across as the strong woman that she is, I make sure to break down her walls before we talk. I do that the same way any good Alpha would do
When she’s panting and laying on my chest, tucked against my side, with my arm wrapped around her, I finally bring it up.
“Talk to me about going back to your family’s pack,” I say to her.
She’s quiet a moment and through the bond, I feel her trying to pull

>her walls up.
“Nikki…I want honesty,” I growl softly.
“I’m always honest with you, Robin.”
“Okay, then I want honesty with vulnerability. I know this will be hard for you. I want to do everything that I can to make it easier and better for you. I know my strong Alpha female. Ì know you’ll put on a brave face, you’ll act like whatever it is doesn’t bother you. But here, in our bedroom with just you and me, I want the honest truth about what’s going on in your mind. I’ve felt your tension increasing as we get closer to going. Talk to me,
Nik.”
I feel the change in her, her waning confidence, and I press my lips to the top of her head. “I’m right here,” I say gently.
“I hate it there,” she says softly, and I feel her fighting her fear and
sadness.
“Because of Alaric?” I ask, needing to know what I’m up against if I’m going to be a good, supportive mate to her.
“Alaric, my parents, everything about that pack was the opposite of what I wanted, what I stood for, what we stand for now,” she says.
“Do you think there are still people there who will want to keep things in the old way?” I ask her.
“I know there will be. There will always be the Camden and Koden followers, the warriors who cheered when a ranked female was claimed publicly, the ones who think that women have no value other

than being breeders.”
“What scares you about going back, baby?” I ask her. My mate doesn’t show fear, but that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t feel it. My girl is tough as nails, and I intend to keep her that way. If she falls apart, it will only ever be with me.
I feel her body clench and I realize she’s fighting tears. I pull her against me more tightly, wrapping both arms around her.
“I don’t want to feel helpless again. My father was just like Alaric. My mother just accepted that this was the way things were. It wasn’t until they were gone that I finally made my stand. I’m afraid that everyone from that pack will look at me like they looked at my mother, like I’m weak and worthless.”
“If they do, their lives won’t last very long. You are anything but weak and worthless,” I growl.
