I take long, deep breaths of her scent, holding her as I try to get hold of my fear. I just know, deep in my gut, that something is going to happen.

I wish I’d known that it would happen in just a few short hours.

Things could not have worked out better in my favor. Of course, I had to play a bit on Aiden’s neuroses. I mean, he’s probably not terribly far off that he’ll be attacked eventually, but I may have suggested that it could be sooner rather than later, and we should be prepared. He’s become fixated on a pending attack, sending nearly all of our warriors to watch Robin’s borders.

It’s a stupid tactic for a couple of reasons. First, if all his warriors are at one border, who’s to keep all of Alpha Robin’s friends from attacking on another border. A smart strategist would have them attack on three, pinning Aiden’s warriors against Robin’s and most like Kayce’s packs for an easy kill.

and shift, heading to where I can feel the nervousness of my patrols.

When I get close, I see what they’re talking about. Aiden has doubled or maybe tripled his patrols, putting up sentinels at certain points to watch our pack. I slowly make my way to dowr the border, seeing that it’s the same all the way up and down.

At one point, I see Koden. He gives me an arrogant finger wave and I stop, shifting and staring at him.

‘Please be careful, Robin,’ Nikki says in my head.

“What’s this about, Koden?” I ask.

“Just being cautious,” he says, making me grind my teeth.

“If Aiden wants a battle, I’m happy to give him one,” I say.

“He’s not the one who wants a battle, Alpha Robin. You and your posse of Alphas are the ones executing Alphas,” he says, referencing Alpha Zahn.

“An Alpha who broke the law,” I say and Koden snorts.

“The laws don’t matter if you only follow them if and when you chose, Alpha. Rernind me, how did Hunter claim his mate?” he asks.

My little mate is going to make herself and my pup sick. I thought it would be a good idea to host the Alpha meeting here because she’s so close to delivering our pup, but she’s truly making herself ill. Rodion basically purred her into a trance to help her fall asleep last night and that was after I tried to wear her out with sex. The woman has become obsessed with marking me. Well, it’s probably Mizette, her wolf, who is crazed about marking me, and I’m not complaining, but I would have thought lots of sex, marking me multiple times, and me marking her again would have knocked her out. But no, my mate is carrying much too much stress, and I realized too late that this was a terrible idea.

I’m not even sure I would have been okay having it at Robin’s pack. I’m not sure what’s going on with Aiden, but from everything that Robin has told me, he’s preparing to make a move. It will be his downfall. Honestly, if Robin and I didn’t have pregnant mates, we probably would have attacked him already. While the other Alphas are here, I intend to suggest that we all go see what’s happening in his pack. According to Robin, he’s not even hiding the increased patrols. They’re right out in the open. It’s a dumb ass move.

“Baby, your anxiety is making me anxious,” I say, coming up to my mate and sliding my hands over her large belly. She leans against me, sighing as she always does when I soothe our little girl Goddess, I can’t wait to hold her in my arms.

“Kayce, they’ll all be here tomorrow. What if everything isn’t ready? What if something’s missing?” she asks, frantic again.

“Then we get it ready, or we do without it. Allison, you’re stressing out about things that aren’t that important. I realize this is the first time that you’ve hosted an Alpha meeting, but these are our friends. Two of them just had pups. Another three are pregnant as well. They aren’t going to judge you, baby,” I say to her, nibbling on her neck in the way I know she likes.

She sighs. “I just want it to be perfect.”

“I know love. And you are perfect. Everything else is just decoration. But Nikki will be here soon. I’m sure that if there is anything missing, she’ll let you know, okay?” I say.

She nods. “Yeah, okay. Nikki is great about things like this.”

‘ALPHA!’ I get an urgent mind link from my Lead Patrol.

‘What is it?’

‘Alpha, come quick to the shared border with Alpha Robin think…I think he’s dead.’

“The fuck?” I yell, pulling away from Allison and shifting before she can turn to look at me.
