I grab my phone and pull up the GPS for the area where we are.

It took us a couple of hours to find their next stop. This time, I caught the scent of my mate, her urine, the other she–wolf, and my son.

“She’s awake,” I say, getting on all fours so Derric can get more of her

scent.

“We need to cover their scents,” Kayce says. I know he’s right, but the thought of someone covering my mate’s scent when I haven’t smelled. her in much too long, doesn’t sit right. But I know it must be done, so I pee over top of the spot where she peed, covering her scent with mine, while the others cover the she–wolf’s scent.

>Then, we take off, following the she–wolf’s scent only. Nikki’s awake, but she’s either not strong enough to shift, not able to because of our son, or Adira is silent. I’m hoping it’s only because of our son that she‘ s not shifting.

We push hard and it’s just over an hour before we find the spot where they stopped and ate. We easily find the rabbit bones and the small fire that they made is still warm even though they kicked dirt over it. While the others begin covering the scents of the she–wolf and burying the rabbit bones deeper in the ground, I sniff the area where Nikki was sitting. She must have been nursing our son. Her scent is strong and over top of it is the scent of musk. Because the scent is stronger, I’m guessing my son peed as well. She wouldn’t have any clothes for him and I’m assuming she doesn’t have any either, so he would have gone to the bathroom on her. While it helps to mask her scent a bit, it also makes her more vulnerable. Any wolf who comes across their scents would know she has a newborn.

I pee all over their scent, trying to hide it. When I look up, I see Hunter and Ezra looking around.

“What is it?” I ask.

“Nikki’s obviously awake. She’d want to try to get back to you or at least one of our packs where she knows she’ll be safe. I don’t know if she was out here when she was on the run, but she’d have a general idea of where Elias‘ pack is in relation to yours.”

I look in the direction where Elias‘ pack is. “The she–wolf would have just run, probably using the river to cover their scents. Now that Nikki‘ s awake, she’ll be trying to figure out where they are. You’re right,” I say, looking in the direction of our pack.

“My pack is the closest to here,” Jake says.

“If she can find it. She could overshoot it and end up on the mountain,” Lucas says

“Yes, but she’d recognize the mountain. She, Allison, and Letti all stayed there. I’ll call and have warriors monitor the area around the mountain on the side where there are no packs,” Kayce says.

“I’ll send some warriors too, let them know that we think Nikki is heading home and if they find her, they need to get her to any of our packs and keep her safe until you can get to her, Robin,” Hunter says.

“I will as well,” Dutton says. The three of them step away to call home and probably take a moment to speak to their mates and fill them in on what we’ve found.

“Does anyone know if there is a water source nearby?” I ask.

“I think so, why?” Ezra says.

“I’m pretty sure my son peed on Nikki. That’s what it smells like, anyway. If so, she’d want to get cleaned up.”
