I get so excited when it’s my turn to feed Rory I know that it still takes a lot out of Nikki. Even if she isn’t nursing him, she’s pumping so I can nurse him, but I feel like we’ve gotten into a good routine.

Derric is gazing at our son through our eyes while I feed him. I swear that when Rory looks at me, it’s like he recognizes me, or maybe he’s committing my features to memory, learning what his father looks like. Derric begins his low, rumbling purr and Rory smiles, his mouth pulling off the nipple before attaching again and sucking hungrily.

‘Qur son is as perfect as his mother,‘ he says, pushing my hand to our son when his fist starts moving around. I gently take his little fist in my hand and smile when he grips our thumb.

‘He’s got a good grip,‘ Derric says proudly.

‘He’ll make a good, strong Alpha,‘ I agree.

We’re still cooing and purring at our son when Nikki rushes into the room, fresh from a shower. Her lotus flower scent fills the room as the residual steam from the shower follows her into the nursery.

I smile up at my mate, letting her scent calm me. When I finally make eye contact, I can see that her eyes are bright and excited.

“She’s back, Robin! Adira is back!” she says, softly but excitedly. My wolf, however, isn’t quite so subtle.

He tosses me out of the way, pushing forward and purring much more loudly.

“My mate,” he purrs. The increased sound has our son jolting.

‘DERRIC!‘ I scold him. He lowers his purr, checking to see that our son goes back to eating, before refocusing on Nikki and Adira. I can feel her now, but she’s still weak.

“I’ve missed you,” he says to her.

“And I’ve missed you,” she says, coming over and wrapping an arm around our shoulders, looking at our son, while rubbing her face against mine.

“What do you think of our son, Derric?” she asks, reaching down to stroke a finger over his chubby thigh.

“I think he’s perfect, like his mother. Robin and I were just saying so.”

Now it’s Adira’s turn to purr. The sound is soft, but I get the feeling that it’s more about her lack of strength than trying to be quiet for our

son.

“Can you shift, my mate?” he asks her.

“Not yet. I want to heal Nikki first, then I’ll get my full strength and be able to shift.”

I watch her eyes go unfocused and I’m sure that Nikki is telling her that she can wait to heal her, that she needs to get her strength back.
