Today, we sit with our friends, saying goodbye. I watch as the other Lunas check in with Nikki and then ohh and ahh over Rory, talking about being new mothers.

“You seem better,” Hunter says to me.

“I’m getting there. Being with her, having her home, having my son… it’s getting better.”

“We need to have that Alpha meeting we missed when we started looking for Nikki. There’s still a lot going on, and now with Aiden gone, we have another pack to put up in the contest.”

“At this rate, we’ll all need new Betas, and probably some new Gammas as those individuals are moved up to Beta positions or taken into new packs,” I say.

He nods, watching our mates as they talk about our pups.

“We have to find Camden. I can’t let him get to Nikki or Rory again,” I say quietly.

“That will definitely be an agenda item for the Alpha meeting, as will our next steps for Alpha David and Beta Cash,” he says, and I turn my attention to Jacqueline. She and Reese seem to be developing a strong friendship. Now that things are setting, I need to talk to Jacqueline about what she wants to do, if she wants to stay here or move to one of the other packs.

“Tll talk to her. I’m assuming that any of the packs would be fine taking her in if she’s not comfortable staying here,” I say.

“Yeah, one Beta female is easy to assimilate. I’ll be interested to see if she’s mated to any of our ranked members. It seems like most of our mates came from outside our local packs.”

“Except for yours,” I say.

“Except for mine,” Hunter says, watching his mate with a hunger that I recognize well.

We walk our friends out, saying goodbye and waving them off. Rory is just waking up again, so I jog inside, get a bottle, then meet Nikki back outside.

I take our son and begin feeding him. “Let’s go get you checked out, my little mate.”

Dr. Ostin gave me a mostly clean bill of health. He said that Adira, my amazing and fantastic wolf, has almost completely healed me from giving birth. I know she started there because she wants to reconnect with our mates as badly as I do. She’s also started healing the wounds on my wrists and ankles, leaving only angry looking red marks now.

‘I still wish you would have worked to gain your own strength first, Adira,‘ I tell her.

‘I’m fine, Nikki. Every time I heal you, it makes me stronger too,’ she

says.

I give my wolf a mental hug. She really is the best wolf ever.

When Dr. Ostin leaves, I get dressed, then lift up on my toes to kiss my mate, pouring every bit of desire that I have for the man into it.

“You’re mine tonight, lover,” tell him, making him smile and Derric growl.

While I am excited, about physically reconnecting with Robin, the thought of him marking me makes me feel nervous. I know he’s not Camden. I know his mark shouldn’t hurt, but after having felt that intense pain so many times, the thought of having any canines in my neck makes me want to shut down. However, I know that my mate needs this, and so do I. Camden’s teeth didn’t leave a typical mark, but they did scar because I was being held in silver and was unable to heal. I’m hoping that Adira can take the worst of that away, but I know Robin hates seeing anyone’s mark on me except his.
