Chapter 458

“It feels a bit smothering to me,” I say quietly so Robin can’t hear. I notice that Kayce’s eyes shift to me, but he doesn’t say anything.

He was excited about Jacqueline coming with us, hoping that she will be mated to his Beta, Dante. But as we cross the border onto his pack lands, I know that Dante isn’t her mate. She doesn’t get that nervous or excited energy about her that you get when your wolf senses their mate. Kayce must realize the same thing, because his lips press together. We all want our Betas happy and settled, and Jacqueline will be an incredible mate and a powerful member of whatever pack she ends up in.

“NIKKI!” I hear my friend say as the packhouse comes into view.

“ALLISON!” I walk faster, wanting to hug my friend. She’s holding her daughter, Brianna, and when we hug, we’re careful not to squish our pups in between us.

“Let me see this young man,” Allison says, looking at Rory. She frowns. “I thought he was premature?”

“He was. He’s catching up quickly,” I say, making her laugh.

“Typical Alpha. Hi, Jacqueline. I’m Allison, in case you don’t remember. I know we probably overwhelmed you when you first arrived in Nikki’s pack.”

“Hello, Luna, it’s nice to see you again. Thank you for allowing me to

visit your lovely home.‘

Allison looks from her to me. “I thought you’d been spending time

with her.”

“Not enough,” I say, smiling as Jacqueline frowns.

“Obviously,” Allison says, turning back to Jacqueline. “You don’t have

to be so formal with us. We’re very relaxed around here. And can call me Allison. Nikki says you’re an impressive fighter. I can’t wait to test you out.”

“I want my chance as well,” Kayce says, coming over to kiss his mate and take his daughter.

“And who is this?” Jacqueline asks.

“This is Brianna,” Allison says, smiling at her mate and daughter.

“The woman who might cause the death of all the young Alphas, isn’t that right baby girl,” Kayce coos at her, making me snort.

“Hands off my son, Kayce,” Robin says, coming up behind me.

“As long as he keeps his hands off my daughter, Robin.”

I sigh. It’s going to be a long eighteen years. And I also know that Robin will act exactly the same when we have a daughter.

‘We’re having a daughter?‘ he asks in the mind link. I can feel his excitement about having another pup. This time, I know that nothing will keep him from being there for his or her birth

I told you I wasn’t done giving you pups yet, Alpha,‘ I reply, smiling slyly at him.

“Let’s get you settled. The others should start arriving soon,” Allison

says. Robin takes Rory and Allison links her arm with mine.

“I guess she and Dante aren’t mates,” she murmurs, looking at Jacqueline.

“Nope,” I say as we walk inside.

“I know Kayce is disappointed.”

“I am too. She’ll make a great mate and hopefully will become part of our Luna club eventually,” I say.

“We’ve put everyone together on one floor. I’m not sure it’s the best idea, but we thought it would be easier than having everyone spread out,” Allison says.

“Whatever is easiest for your pack. And since most of us have young pups, we’ll all be up all night anyway,” I say to her.
