“We know that the laws are in her favor because they aren’t fated mates, but obviously Alpha David doesn’t care about that. So, if he comes, it’s war,” I say, looking at Jacqueline so she knows that I’m serious. Robin and I, and our friends will protect her. I would do it anyway, but I owe this woman for saving my life and the life of my son.

I know these guys are joking about their Betas, but the truth is, we have some very strong pack members, some of whom will become Alphas. I don’t know if you were planning to come to the competition or the visit beforehand, but I suggest that you do and that if you find your mate, give yourself a chance to get to know him. No one will allow you to be forced into a mate bond, and you know we don’t agree with public claimings here. But if you find your mate, and you have his mark on your neck, Alpha David will have to move on and find someone else.”

“Unless he buddies up with Camden and Koden,” Robin growls.

I reach out and take my mate’s hand, sending waves of love and peace through the mate bond.

“I’d suggest that we add more patrols around Alpha Aiden’s pack while we’re there these next two wecks Anyone would be foolish to attack while we’re there, but it would be a good opportunity for scouts to find Jacqueline. If we can keep them away, that would buy us some time.” Jake says.

“The man is missing a foot! How does a man with one foot disappear without a trace?” I yell. I feel Nikki reach out to touch my arm, trying to soothe me. It’s not enough and I pull her and Rory into my lap.

Everyone stays quiet while I bury my face in Nikki’s neck, breathing in her scent and letting it calm me.

“I want him dead,” I say softly, much more calmly, finally pulling my face out of her neck.

She wraps her arm around my neck and turns, curling up in my lap so I can see and smell Rory more easily too,

“Nikki, what can you tell us about your brother’s previous Beta? Did he have any hobbies? Did he leave the pack and go to a getaway every year, anything like that?” Ezra asks.

“No, nothing like that. The only reason he left the pack that I know of is when he was invited to a ranked female’s eighteenth birthday party.”

“I remember him from my birthday party,” Amelia says quietly.

“Mine as well,” Kinsley says, just as quietly.

“What about Koden?” Lucas asks, looking at Hunter as he reaches over to take Kinsley’s hand.
