My eyes never leave Robin’s, so I see his lips press tightly together. If Jacqueline and Reese are going, he knows that I’ll be protected.

“What about Rory?” he asks me, not answering Reese.

“Letti and the twins already agreed to watch him. Sophie will be here too. They’ll have to restructure the battles since Amelia will be out for the rest of the competition. We need you and the other Alphas here so we can continue to do this. Let those of us who can, help. I won’t go on a hunt. I just want to help,” I tell him.

He looks at me a long moment.

“Reese, you’re in charge of protecting your Luna,” he says, and I smile up at him. “Do not give me that happy look. I’m going to be worried sick until you’re back here where I know you’re safe.”

“Beta Reese,” I say, still watching Robin.,

“Yes, Luna.”

“Have you ever let your Alpha down?”

“I don’t believe so, Luna.”

“And you don’t intend to start today, do you?”

safe.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

Robin leans down and kisses me. It’s rough and full of emotion. I answer his kiss, giving him every possible reassurance that I intend to return and that I’ll stay safe.

When I pull back, I stroke his cheeks, watching him as I address our Beta again.

“Beta Reese, one more thing.”

“What’s that, Luna?”

“I bet a lot of money that you would win this competition, so I expect your ass to be back here in time for your next battle. You wouldn’t want to let your Luna down, would you?” I ask, watching Robin’s lips twitch into a smile, which is what I was hoping for.

“I won’t let you down, Luna.”

“Of course you won’t. And you’re going to make one hell of an Alpha when you win this pack,” I tell him, finally pulling away from Robin.

“We’ll be back soon, my love. I’ll return with Reese, no matter what’s going on.”

“Thank you. I’ll send our trackers out with you. Let them hunt down whoever did this.”

“Please be careful,” Miles says to Jacqueline.

“Beta Miles, you haven’t seen Jacqueline spar. The person who needs to be careful is anyone who goes against her,” I say as Reese and I pass

them.

“That’s what I keep hearing. I can’t wait to see what you’ve got, Little Mate.”

“Just make sure you win this morning so I can cheer you on this afternoon,” Jacqueline tells him

The three of us get into a car and begin following the large number of cars and vans that are heading toward the road that would take us to Calvin’s pack.

We’re about an hour into the drive when we see the smoke. When we

arrive, Dr. Caspian is directing the warriors where to cut through the car so that he can get Calvin’s legs out. Even from here, I can see that they are crushed. I’d be terrified that he would lose his legs if I hadn’t seen what Dr. Caspian had done for Jocelyn.

Suddenly, cars come screeching to a stop across from where we are parked. Reese pushes Jacqueline and I behind him and multiple other warriors snarl, creating a line of defense, as their claws come out.

“Let him through,” I hear Amelia say. I hadn’t seen her and now I realize she’s with Dr. Caspian holding Calvin’s head in her lap while they try to get him free.

Beta Anthony runs over, scrubbing his mouth with his hand when he sees how bad it is. “It will take two hours to get him to our pack.”
