We finish eating as I go to the leaderboards and see who my competition is for the day. As I look it over, I realize that if both of us win all of our matches, it will be me and Reese in the final for this

pack. I’m sure he slept last night and therefore, he’s already got the upper hand on me.

“Come on, my mate. Let’s go watch some of your competitors so we can talk through how you can take them down,” my mate says.

Okay, maybe he doesn’t have the upper hand after all. My mate is one hell of a secret weapon.

I had seen Jacqueline leading Miles back to our pack. Since her room is beside mine and I know that they are mates, I didn’t want to hear whatever they were going to be doing, so I chose to sleep outside in Aiden’s pack. All–in–all, I think it was a good idea. I feel like I’m absorbing the feel of the pack, taking it in, making it mine.

The next morning when Miles and Jacqueline show up looking tired but exceedingly happy, both wearing mate marks, I know I made the right decision to stay away. It hurts, watching them so happy when I was so close to making her mine, but as my Alpha and Luna have said, a fated mate bond is a powerful thing. I’m happy for Jacqueline that she’s found that. Maybe someday, I will too.

-time to stretch my legs by jogging around the pack lands. I really want this pack, not only to be close to Alpha Robin, but also to be part of all of the big things that are happening here. And hopefully, having to focus all my attention on a pack will keep me from feeling the loss of someone I would have been proud to call my mate.

When I come back around, I go into the packhouse where they have showers that we can use. Several rooms have been left vacant so that the competitors can shower when needed. I get dressed, grab something to eat and go check out the competitions for the day. The second day is always more difficult than the first. From what I understand, all of the competing Betas, Gammas, and Lead Warriors are still in the competition. Most of the omegas were eliminated yesterday along with a large number of warriors. Today, however, each round will be tougher. I’m thankful to Jacqueline for teaching me as much as she did in the last week because I’ve used every bit of that knowledge, and my two competitions yesterday were fairly easy.

Just because, I look for Caleb’s name and see he’s already out of the competition.

“What are you chuckling about?” Dante asks, walking up.

“Caleb. He’s already out.”

“Hopefully, our mates will come around soon. Let’s hope, anyway,‘ Dante says. “In the meantime, I’m going to win this pack so that I can focus on that.

Now I start laughing. “I had that same exact thought this morning.”

“Too bad I’m the one who is going to win,” he says, waggling his

eyebrows.

“I guess we’ll see later,” I tell him.

“I guess we will.”

“Good luck, Dante.”

Because Alpha Amelia is still out, there are fewer Alphas to referee the competitions. I volunteered and was chosen to take an extra fight yesterday, so I’m feeling pretty good today.

My first competition is against a Lead Warrior from Lucas‘ new pack, He’s good, but I get him to tap out in forty–five minutes.

I spend the next couple of hours watching Dante, Miles, and a couple other fighters that I know are strong competitors.

“What do you see?” Jacqueline comes over to ask me.

“Do you think I’m going to tell you? You’re working for the enemy now,” I tell her, making her smile.
