Chapter 496
“So, me and Miles. Who would you pick to win that battle?” I ask her.
“Honestly, you.”
“Really?” I ask, shocked. “Why is that?”
“Two reasons. One, he was up all night and I’m guessing you weren’t. And second, you’ve had a chance to train with me and he hasn’t.”
I laugh, throwing my head back at her arrogance, or in her case, it’s probably just confidence. “Thank you for that.”
“You’re welcome. And good luck.”
My second battle of the day is against Kai, Kayce’s Gamma. This battle is harder and takes a couple of hours before I get him to tap out.
At five o’clock, we break for dinner so the Alphas have a chance to rest and spend a few minutes with their families. There are four of us left. Me, Dante, Miles, and Daniel, Dutton’s Gamma.
After dinner, I get in the ring with Daniel. Alpha Ezra is presiding and there are a bunch of people here to cheer us on. I’m sure it’s the same with Dante and Miles. I’m guessing that Alpha Dutton will be going back and forth between battles since both his Beta and Gamma got to the end of the competition.
This competition is much harder as I knew it would be. I’m not sure if

-Daniel is just that strong of a fighter or if Alpha Dutton is a fantastic
instructor, but he’s good, he’s strong, and he’s fast. It’s close to nine o‘ clock when I finally get Daniel to tap out.
I hop up and help him up. “Great job, man. You were one hell of an opponent,” I tell him.
“Same goes and obviously, the best man won. Congratulations.”
“Thanks.”
I realize that Dante and Miles are still sparring. Alpha Hunter is refereeing this one. It’s more than an hour later before Miles gets Dante to tap out. It’s been a long day, and I can tell that Miles is exhausted. I’m tired too but I wasn’t up all night completing a mate
bond.
“Are we going to try and finish this tonight, or are we going to come back for the final competition in the morning?” Ezra asks.
“I think we should hold out. Miles looks beat and his battle took longer than mine,” I say.
“Miles?” Ezra asks.
“I’m good with that,” he says. I know I could beat him tonight if we pushed forward, but it wouldn’t be a fair fight, and I’m not interested in winning because my competitor wasn’t at full strength.
“Get some sleep tonight, Miles,” I tell him. I intend to stay and sleep outside again, just in case he decides not to sleep.

–“Six o’clock tomorrow morning. The battle will continue until
someone concedes or a tie is called,” Alpha Lucas says. He’ll be refereeing the battle tomorrow.
It’s another night where I take the opportunity to try and mentally connect with the pack lands. It’s much quieter now, most of the competitors have returned to their packs. I extend Sid’s claws and let them sink into the ground around me as I look up into the sky, watching the stars and the moon.
I wonder if she’s out there, somewhere, looking up at the stars and the moon tonight, wondering if I am too.
“Hang in there,” I say, knowing she’ll never hear me, but hoping that somehow, the universe will deliver my message. I fall asleep like that, Sid’s claws still in the earth as if we’re cementing ourselves into this
pack.
The next morning, I’m up before the sun, grabbing a quick bite to eat and then stretching, getting ready for the battle.
Miles and Jacqueline come over right at six and we get in the ring.
“Beta Reese,” my Luna calls.
I turn and look at her. “Yes, Luna.”
“Remember what I said.”
“Yes, Luna.” She’s bet a lot of money on me, so I’d better win. How could I forget?
When Alpha Lucas calls the fight, I begin one of the most difficult

It isn’t until after the fight ends that I realize Alpha Lucas called the fight after six hours. All I know is that both Miles and I are exhausted, sweaty, panting, and ready to collapse.
“I call a tie.” Alpha Lucas says.
I reach my hand out to Miles. “Good job.”
“You asshole. You realize you just won, right?” Miles says, smiling at me as he shakes my hand.
“What?”
“You fought an extra match. I didn’t.”
“Wait, what?” I ask, looking from Miles to Lucas who smiles at me.
“Congratulations. Alpha.” Alpha Robin says, stressing the title as he walks up to me. “Hey Dutton!” he calls out.
“Yeah?”
“I call your new Beta female and give you the newest Alpha of our packs, MY former Beta and the best man in the competition, Alpha Reese!”
