That was yesterday and no one’s heard anything from Robin since then, including me. I know he’s not dead, I didn’t feel my tether to him snap. As long as I know he’s not dead, I can hold my fear for him at bay. At least during the day. Last night, lying in our bed alone and wondering where he is and if he’s safe, was rough. I realized that Robin had more nights than I ever want to imagine sleeping in that bed wondering where I was or if I was safe. It’s a testament to how strong my mate is that he didn’t go feral, even though he was close. Too many nights like this and I’d be feral for sure.

“I’m glad I’m starting off small, in truth. We’re all learning together. My pack has had a rough time, losing their Alphas, getting taken into Alpha Ezra’s pack, but still not really having a place to live. I can tell that they are finally starting to feel/settled now that they have rooms and beds and all the things that a person and family should have in a pack.”

“How are you doing financially?” I ask him.

“With the help that you and Robin gave me, I’m good, but I do want to talk about starting to create the community area. I’m not sure about Lucas, but Jake and I talked, and we both need something a bit longer term for our pack members to do. He’s running out of money fast, having to rebuild and I’d like to get some new furniture for my pack members and the packhouse. So, the sooner we can start doing that, the better.”

“You’re right, we definitely need to get working on it. I’d love for this mountain to become more secure, and I want a school for my pups before they’re old enough to start going to school.”

“Yeah, and I need a nursery in my pack. The one they had …” he shivers in revulsion. “Aiden was such a shit. I knew he wasn’t a good Alpha, but I didn’t realize that he was terrible. I mean, I’m not a parent but I wouldn’t let any of my pack members use that space for a nursery and the whole packhouse was overrun with rats.

“Rats?” I ask disgusted. “How does a pack allow rats to take up residence in their packhouse?”

I’m about to offer to send him some/bleach to clean his packhouse when I feel Robin’s mind bumping up against mine.

‘I’m coming in hot, Nikki. Let the pack know,’ he says, his voice sounds tired but full of anger.

I lift my head to the sky and howl to the patrols that their Alpha is coming.

They answer immediately, their howls going up all around the pack.

“What’s going on?” Reese asks me as I turn to where I can feel Robin coming in.

“Robin’s back!” I say, jogging outside to get to him.

“Luna, hang on Let’s make sure everything is okay,” Reese says.

I stop, frowning at him just as the howls of the pack turn to yips of excitement and challenge.

“What the hell are they doing?” I ask as the patrols open the pack link to the entire pack.

‘He got him! Alpha got Camden! He’s dragging him home!’

I stand beside Reese as we watch Derric dragging a very battered Bruno by the back of his neck. Bruno is snarling and snapping at the patrols who have joined Robin to bring him in.

I watch while Derric drops Bruno, his eyes on me before Robin pulls the shift. Then I’m running into his arms, holding him tightly, so happy that he’s home and alive.

“Are you okay? Do you need medical attention?” I ask him quietly.

“I’ll heal,” he tells me, his face pressed into my neck as he breathes in my scent and holds me close. “I missed you”

“I missed you too. Let’s not ever spend another night away from each other, especially when we don’t know if the other person is safe.”

“Deal,” he says, pulling back and taking my face in his hands. “I’m not going to kiss you because I’ve been dragging Camden for nearly a day. His disgusting taste is in my mouth I don’t ever want you to regret kissing me,” he says smiling.
