“I’m going to call Alpha Jake. I want to see when or how we might be able to start monitorin space in between our packs. I know it’s a goal to do that, but if we can start now, it might he when Alexandra’s pack comes for us,” Miles says.

“Okay. I’m going to go make sure everything is okay with Alpha Amelia.”

“Did I miss something?” Miles asks me, frowning.

“No. I just want to make sure that she hasn’t had any Koden sightings. I can ask her about extra patrols to help cover that area if you’d like. I don’t think Alpha Lucas has any to spare since he and Alpha Hunter are already covering the space between their packs,” I say.

“Agreed. I think Alpha Hunter is also working with Alpha Kayce to close that space between th packs too.”

“When I come back, I’ll talk to Nikki about the legal aspects of helping Alpha Dutton, but I also want to know who is looking into buying the land around us. Do you know who is doing that?”

“I don’t. How about I focus on the patrols and getting those set up and you focus on preparing to protect our Alpha and buying out this land so we know it’s ours,” he says.

“Beta Jacqueline What brings you here? Did Alpha Dutton and the Lunas get off okay?” she asks

“They did. I’m actually here to speak to Alpha Amelia about the patrols that we want to start running toward Alpha Jake’s pack and see if you have any extra patrols we can use.

I spend the next hour talking with Alpha Amelia and Beta Jocelyn about the plan to cover the backside of the mountain and my intention to talk to Nikki about who is planning to purchase the land

“I have an answer to that, although I don’t know where Hunter is in the process, but he’s the one who is working on that. You should talk with him, especially since my sister is about ready to deliver their second pup. Once she does, I’m sure Hunter will be distracted with his little girl.”

“I’ll talk to him, thank you,” I say.

“About those patrols, I’d like to get on a call with Miles and Jake, see what they are planning and then see how we can help. Obviously if we don’t have to patrol our back border, I’ll have other patrols to give to help cover the larger territory. And since I have a personal interest in keeping the area safe, I definitely want to participate. I’ll call your mate and talk to him about it more in depth.” Alpha Amelia tells me.

“I’m so sorry, Alpha. If there’s anything Miles or I can do, please let us know,” I say.

She smiles at me. “I think you and Miles are going to make an excellent Alpha and Luna someda soon.”

I smile, looking down.

“What’s that look?” Jocelyn asks. In the short time I’ve known her, I’ve noticed that Jocelyn is ver

“We’ve been talking about maybe being co-Alphas in our pack,” I say hesitantly. I’m not sure if it’s

ever been done or how the others will feel about it.

Amelia and Jocelyn look at each other.

Jocelyn escorts me to their pack hospital and once she makes sure that Dr. Caspian can see me, she says her goodbyes and heads back to the packhouse.

Dr. Caspian takes me into a private room and turns to me. “What can I do for you today. Beta?”

“I think I might be pregnant, but I’m not sure. I’ve been feeling nauseous in the mornings and some foods make my stomach turn, but I haven’t actually vomited,” I tell him.

“Not all pregnant women vomit during their pregnancies. Some have nausea all day, sometimes for their entire pregnancy. Some women have little to no nausea at all. Everyone is different. But

it’s an easy blood test to see if you’re pregnant. Do you have any idea how far along you are?”

“Uh, well, Miles and I haven’t even known each other a month, so it would be pretty recent. Two to three weeks at the most.”

“That sounds about right. Anything less than that and I’d be surprised if you were feeling any symptoms. And you’re still able to shift?” he asks as he collects what he needs to take my blood

“I could the last time I tried.” I tell him.

He nods. “Again, everyone is a little bit different, but it’s usually in the two to three week timeframe that you won’t be able to shift. And it can happen very suddenly. You could have shifted to come here today but when you try to shift to go home, you can’t. I tell you that so you’re aware and not worried when it happens suddenly. Your wolf will know when she can no longer shift. Trust her.”

My wolf, Serena, doesn’t say anything, she just listens to Dr. Caspian as he takes my blood.

When he’s done, he steps out of the room and tells me he’ll be back in a few moments. When he returns, he comes to sit down in front of me, looking me in the eye.

“Well, Beta Jacqueline, you’re pregnant.”

I feels like someone just stole my breath away and I sit, staring at Dr. Caspian for a moment.

“I am?”

“You are. I would suggest checking in with your wolf every day to see if you can shift. Once you can’t make an appointment with me for about two weeks later. We’ll do an ultrasound and see if we can determine if you’re having a boy or a girl. Do you have any questions for me?”

I smile, feeling tears prick my eyes. “No, doctor. You’ve made my day. I expect my mate will feel the same when I tell him.”

He smiles a sweet, knowing smile at me. “I look forward to hearing his excited howl later tonight Now, I’m going to give you some information and some vitamins to make sure you and your baby stay healthy, and I’ll want to start checking in with you. But unless you have any concerns. I’ll see you in a few weeks.”

I thank him, then head back to my pack. On the way. I can’t help but rub my stomach. I’m going to have a baby. I’m going to have Miles’ baby. I’m so excited.

When I get to the packhouse. it’s dinner time. Miles sees me and comes jogging over.

“Hey, I was just about to come look for you. Alpha Amelia called me an hour ago to talk about the patrols. Is everything okay?”

“Yeah, it is.” I say. “Are we still on for that … event you mentioned earlier?” I ask him.

His eyes darken. “We absolutely are.” he says, tilting his head and watching me. I can feel him gently nudging around in my head, but I shake my head at him, and he stops.

“You’re sure everything is okay?”

We have dinner with the pack and I check in to make sure everyone is feeling okay with Miles and I leading the pack. I don’t get any feelings of discontent or concern, which is good.

As we head upstairs, I ask Miles if he heard from Alpha Dutton.

“Yes. They arrived at Alpha Ezra’s pack late this afternoon. Tomorrow, he’ll start searching for Alpha Alexandra.” he says, opening the door to our room and closing it behind us.

I turn and wrap my arms around his neck.

I watch him frown, looking at me. My smile just gets bigger knowing that he’s wondering if this is some new sexual kink that I’m interested in. If it was, I know he’d make it a reality for me, but my mate knows me too well and I see realization dawn on his face.

“You went to see Dr. Caspian today?”
