The Paper Wife’s Empire novel Chapter 338

“That’s right, I’m a bastard, not a gentleman. You’ve known that from the beginning, haven’t you?” he said, his voice tight. Seeing the look of pure hatred on her face, he felt an unexpected pang of discomfort, but he quickly suppressed it.

He made a quick phone call, and soon they were pulling into the garage of a seven-star hotel. Two men in suits were waiting for them. Nova opened her mouth to scream, but they were on her before she could make a sound, each grabbing an arm.

“This hotel belongs to my mother’s family,” Holden said, his voice low. “You can scream all you want; no one will help you. I’ve booked you the presidential suite. As long as you stay inside, you can enjoy all the amenities.”

Realizing the futility of her situation, Nova glared at him but said nothing. He was a cunning fox. He had used the pretense of taking her home to test her. His paranoia meant that whoever he was meeting tonight was important.

He had the men escort her to her room, then went to the revolving restaurant on the top floor. Brianna and her companion should have arrived by now. He straightened his tie, plastered on a professional smile, and pushed open the door to the private dining room.

Brianna and Jotham Holt were standing by the window, admiring the view. “Ms. Prescott, Mr. Holt. A pleasure to finally meet you,” Holden said smoothly, waving away the staff in the room.

Brianna turned, a smile on her face as she extended a hand. “You must be Mr. Covington.” She had been nervous about meeting the Covington Group representative, expecting either the mysterious heiress or Benedict Covington’s widow. She knew the current CEO was the heiress, but there were several other Covingtons in the company, including Benedict’s adopted son, who held a high-level position. This must be him.

“I am. Holden Covington, Vice President of the Covington Group.” As he shook her hand, his eyes flickered to Jotham.

Jotham understood immediately. “Please, Mr. Covington, don’t mock me. There is no Holt Group anymore, and I’m no longer Mr. Holt.” He had once believed he was involved with the Covington heiress herself. The truth had been a bitter pill to swallow. The person who had wanted to invest in his company couldn’t have been her. It had to have been this man, Holden. He had done his research. Benedict’s adopted son had married into the family. Public records showed that Benedict had left almost his entire fortune to his biological daughter. It was clear that Holden and Ramona were not on friendly terms. The fact that he had tried to invest in the Holt Group right under her nose only confirmed his suspicions. Unfortunately, an adopted son was no match for a biological daughter, which was why the Holt Group had gone under so quickly. But Jotham had accepted his fate. A little humility now might serve him well in the long run. At least they were no longer in the dark, being manipulated by unseen forces.
