104 Chapter 104 Where I Used To Sit
Zain’s POV 1
I pressed my back against the bathroom wall, but before I could finish speaking, Blanche cut the call.
Staring at my phone’s dark screen, irritation flared through me for no clear reason. I pulled out a cigarette and struck it to life.
The flame flickered as Drew emerged from the stall, eyebrows raised with curiosity. “Who was that? All the secrecy?”
I drew deeply, exhaling smoke while my gaze turned icy. “My wife.”
‘His wife?‘ Drew’s expression showed confusion before realization dawned–I meant Blanche.
“What’s going on? You never call her, right?” Drew pressed.
These days, I felt different somehow. I couldn’t shake thoughts of Blanche, always wondering what occupied her time.
Then again, she was Carry’s mother. Obviously I’d be concerned.
I ignored Drew’s question.
Truth was, I had no clue what to tell him.
When my cigarette burned down to almost nothing, I finally pushed off the wall and turned to Drew. “Blanche’s been difficult lately.
Should I handle it somehow?”
Drew gaped at me, struck silent.
‘How the hell am I supposed to answer that?‘ Drew’s face showed complete bewilderment.
I didn’t wait for his response. I just headed out of the bathroom without another word.
Back at our table, Carry could barely stay awake, her head drooping against Joanna’s thigh.
Joanna glanced up as Drew and I approached. “Zain, Drew, what kept you two so long?”
I settled beside Joanna, my face giving nothing away. “Someone needed to take a shit.”
Nicholas, mid–sip of his wine, nearly spit it out at that.
Drew knew I’d thrown him under the bus, and seeing Nicholas’s amusement, he shot Nicholas a deadly look.
Carry drowsily raised her head from Joanna’s lap.
Drew sprawled across the table, smirking, “Carry, tell me something. Who do you usually sleep with at night?”
Carry rubbed her eyes, yawned hugely, and mumbled, “I always sleep with Miss Joanna.”
Drew’s expression turned mock–serious. “What about staying at my place tonight?”
Carry wrinkled her nose. “Why would I do that?”

Drew crooked his finger at her. “Come closer. I’ve got a secret to share.”
Curiosity sparked in Carry’s eyes as she climbed onto the couch and pressed her small face near Drew’s.
Drew whispered in her ear, “Because if you stay, you’ll ruin your dad and Miss Joanna’s special adult time.”
Drew always believed Joanna was my perfect match.
So when I randomly brought up Blanche earlier, Drew probably sensed danger for Joanna.
He was likely trying to play cupid behind the scenes.
Drew figured, ‘With Carry constantly interrupting, Zain and Joanna can’t even share a bed. How will they ever advance their
relationship?‘
But Carry just looked confused. “What’s special adult time?”
Drew leaned closer, whispering gently, “Don’t you want your dad and Miss Joanna to stay with you forever? Wouldn’t you like a baby
brother or sister?”
At the mention of siblings, Carry immediately shook her head. “No! Having babies means bleeding, and I don’t want Miss Joanna to get
hurt.”
Carry grew upset, and both Joanna and I automatically looked her way.
Drew quickly soothed her. “Okay, okay, no bleeding, no bleeding.”
After Carry settled down, Drew asked, “So, are you brave enough to sleep alone?”
Carry considered this, then nodded. “Yes.”
Drew snapped his fingers. “Perfect! Starting today, you’ll sleep by yourself.”
Carry pushed out her bottom lip. “Uncle Stewart, even though Miss Joanna usually sleeps with me, when I wake up late at night, she’s
never in my room.”
Her voice carried just loud enough for everyone to catch.
Drew heard it, and so did the rest of us.
Drew and Nicholas immediately understood her meaning, both shooting me approving glances.
Joanna caught on too, her cheeks flushing crimson as she ducked her head, too mortified to speak.
I just stared back at Drew and Nicholas, completely unbothered.
After a beat, I stood and addressed Carry. “Carry, time to head home.”
Carry looked up at me, clearly reluctant to leave.
I frowned. “Did you forget what your mother told you?”
Blanche’s mention made Carry slightly sulky, but seeing the cold, threatening expression on my face, she didn’t dare protest.

“Fine,” Carry grumbled, climbing down and extending her hand for me to take.
Blanche’s POV
Monday morning arrived with light rain pattering outside. I threw on a jacket, grabbed an umbrella, and left the Callum Mansion.
By seven AM, I’d already reached Blissfield Villa.
Zain had forbidden me from moving back in, but he’d never said I couldn’t come cook for Carry.
Besides, Carry hadn’t fully recovered yet, so I planned to stick around a few more days.
I prepared some porridge, and realizing time was running short, I headed upstairs to wake Carry.
Passing Zain’s room, the door suddenly swung open.
Zain appeared in gray pajamas, his eyes widening with surprise at finding me there.
I glanced at him, then noticed Joanna behind him, sitting at the vanity in light blue pajamas, applying her skincare routine.
I used to occupy that exact spot, though Zain never lingered with me back then.
Maybe sensing my gaze drift into the bedroom, Zain instinctively shifted to block my view as much as possible.
His voice carried irritation as he demanded, “Why are you here?”
I met his stare coldly. “I’m just making breakfast for Carry. Once her lymph nodes return to normal, I’ll stop coming.”
Zain said, “Carry’s much better now.”
My voice turned frosty. “Zain, I’m a doctor. I only trust medical results.”
With nothing more to say to Zain, I walked straight to Carry’s room.
Opening the door, I found Carry still sleeping soundly.
School time approached, so I gently called, “Carry, time to wake up for school.”
Carry rolled over and complained, “Mom, I want to sleep longer. Stop bothering me.”
I reminded her, “It’s Monday. Don’t you have classes?”
Carry pulled the blanket over her head. “Can’t I skip today? I missed last week too.”
Growing frustrated, I replied firmly, “No. Your stomach feels fine now, so you’re going to school. It’s crucial to develop good attendance
habits.”
Carry, clearly irritated, kicked at her covers and muttered, “God, I get it, Mom. You’re so naggy”
Pain shot through my chest. I looked up, fighting back tears, then sighed heavily. “I need to get to work. Let your father drive you today.”
With that, I stood up.

Carry just mumbled a response and said nothing else.
As I walked away, I kept glancing back at the bed, secretly hoping Carry would get up and apologize.
But nothing happened. Carry remained motionless.
