135 Chapter 135 Nothing But Desperate Determination
Blanche’s POV
Vincent’s smug grin made my stomach turn as he stared down at Ashlee, his eyes ice–cold while she completely fell apart. The harder
she sobbed, the wider his twisted smile got.
People around us started murmuring, their whispers getting louder by the second.
“What’s gotten into Mr. Aarav today? He’s usually such a charmer with the ladies, but right now he looks ready to bite someone’s head
off
“I mean, sure, if she’d crossed Mr. Aarav somehow, I might understand, but her family just owns some restaurant chains. She’s nowhere
near his level.”
“Seriously, it’s like Mr. Aarav turned into a completely different person.”
Vincent couldn’t care less about the chatter swirling around him. He cleaned his hands with a handkerchief and threw it right at Ashlee’s
face.
“Miss Adams, you’re only the third woman I’ve ever truly despised,” he said, his voice cutting like ice. With that, Vincent spun around and
stalked off, his frozen expression making everyone scramble out of his way.
Cocky and defiant, with that dangerous edge he always carried, Vincent’s height gave him a clear view over everyone’s heads, and his
gaze eventually found Zain.
Something flickered in his eyes–something complex and unreadable.
Zain, Drew, and Nicholas all noticed Vincent’s stare.
Anyone with eyes could see it–pure disgust, contempt, and a touch of mockery.
Drew picked up on the hostile energy and turned to the others, confused. “Is he openly challenging us now?”
Zain swirled his wine glass, his voice low. “When has he ever been different?”
Nicholas sat up straighter, his brow furrowed. “Vincent’s acting strange today. He’s usually a pro at charming women, why is he suddenly
trying to humiliate one?
Zain sipped his wine slowly, then suddenly fixed his eyes on me as I stood not far away.
Everyone else was watching Vincent storm out, but I didn’t even glance in his direction–I was too busy searching for something decent
to eat at the buffet.
The less I seemed to care about Vincent, the more Zain looked like something was bothering him.
Zain’s mind seemed to be racing, but he just told Nicholas, “Maybe someone else has the answer”

Nicholas followed Zain’s gaze to me–and stayed silent. Nicholas and the others had witnessed firsthand just how far Vincent would go to
shield me.
But Drew wasn’t buying it. “Even if Vincent’s trying to protect Blanche, it’s just temporary. A guy like him? He’s only playing games.
Eventually, she’ll figure out she’s not just disappointing Zain–she’s also betting on the wrong horse.”
Zain and Nicholas remained quiet, letting Drew’s words settle.
Zain seemed to be wondering, ‘But what if Vincent really is defending Blanche?‘
Meanwhile, I had filled my plate and was sharing some food with Amara when she clicked her tongue twice and said, “Blanche, did you
catch that? Guys like Vincent are exactly the type you need to avoid.
“He’s constantly in the gossip columns, acting all smooth and sweet with women, but look at what he just pulled–embarrassing a woman
in front of everyone. If you ever encounter someone like him, don’t just walk away–sprint in the opposite direction.”
I managed a weak smile. “Okay, I hear you.” But despite my smile, my chest felt tight.
Vincent had no connection to that woman, yet he attacked her completely unprovoked.
I didn’t want to overthink it; I was terrified Vincent’s explosion was somehow
my
fault.
The only thing I could figure was that Vincent saw something in me he could use.
‘But what exactly does Vincent want from me?‘ I wondered, my thoughts weighing me down.
Just as my mind started spinning out of control, a piercing scream rang out from the entrance. “Zain, Carry’s missing.”
Joanna’s scream instantly killed all the gossip about Vincent. Zain, Drew, and Nicholas all sprinted toward the exit.
I heard it too. Without hesitation, I dropped the food from my hands and ran.
Amara, seeing me rush off, chased after me.
When we reached the venue’s backyard, everyone scattered to search for Carry.
I was frantic, so panicked I couldn’t tell if the moisture on my face was sweat or tears.
I searched everywhere, running and calling out, “Carry, where are you? Please, don’t frighten me; just answer me, okay?”
I raced past the playground and the pool, but Carry was nowhere to be seen.
I was losing it, tears and sweat streaming down my cheeks.
Zain reached the same area, and when he spotted me, he hesitated for a second.
“Did you find Carry?” I asked desperately, my eyes locked on Zain.
Zain looked worried too. He shook his head. “No, not yet.”
My panic exploded. I choked out, my voice shaking, “Zain, if something happens to Carry, I swear I’ll never forgive you.”
I was so upset my entire body trembled, my knees almost buckling under me.

Zain grabbed me just in time, holding me steady. “Don’t panic. I’ve already got people searching for her. She’s going to be fine.”
I tried to pull away, but when I couldn’t, I just gave up and stood there, broken; my tears kept flowing no matter what I did.
My eyes scanned everywhere, hoping to spot Carry’s energetic little figure. But no matter where I looked, Carry was nowhere to be
found.
Suddenly, from somewhere nearby, a dog started barking–and mixed in was a sobbing, desperate voice. “Mommy, help me.”
I knew that voice instantly; it was Carry crying out.
In that instant, maternal instinct kicked in, and all my exhaustion vanished. Without thinking twice, I ran toward the sound.
I had no idea where the surge of energy came from, but I was outrunning Zain without even knowing it.
As I rushed past the flower beds near the pool, I finally saw Carry running toward me, a medium–sized dog chasing her and barking
aggressively.
Ignoring my own safety, I charged straight toward Carry and the dog, shouting, “Carry, don’t be afraid. Come this way. I’m here, and I
won’t let anything hurt you.”
Carry saw me and ran in my direction, but the dog was quicker; it caught up and sank its teeth into her leg.
The dog clamped down on Carry’s calf and refused to release her.
My mind went completely blank at the sight, but as a mother, some wild, unstoppable instinct took over and drove me forward.
I launched myself at the dog, wrapping my hands around its neck with nothing but desperate determination.
Carry was on the ground, screaming for me in absolute terror.
I tried to strangle the dog off my daughter, using every bit of strength I possessed, but the animal just wouldn’t release her.
Blood was pouring down Carry’s leg, and I frantically began hitting the dog’s head, desperate to make it stop.
Finally, the dog released Carry’s leg, but then it turned on me, biting my arm repeatedly, each bite savage and deep.
When the dog finally let go, Carry jumped up and ran straight to Zain. “Daddy, pick me up. Please, Daddy.”
She was so terrified her voice quivered, her whole body shaking.
Zain didn’t even look at me; he just bent down and pulled Carry close. “It’s okay, sweetheart. I’m here.”
Right then, Joanna, Drew, and Nicholas appeared, breathing hard.
When Carry saw Joanna, she cried even harder. “Miss Joanna, can you hold me?”
Joanna took Carry from Zain, gently pressing her forehead against Carry’s and whispering apologetically, “I’m so sorry, sweetheart. I
should’ve been here sooner.”
