48 Chapter 48 Louder Does Not Mean Right

Blanche’s POV

Vincent never changedcompletely reckless, never caring what anyone thought of him.

Despite my marriage and having a child, he still couldn’t resist his flirtatious games.

Honestly, he’d probably whistle at any woman who crossed his path.

With someone like him, how could anyone take his words seriously?

Still, regardless of what people said about Vincent, he’d genuinely helped me before.

I could never forget that debt.

I pressed myself into the corner while Vincent towered over me like some looming shadow.

He might look like a refined gentleman, but underneath that facade, he was utterly shameless.

Maybe ignoring him completely is the only way, I thought. He might get bored and back off!

So I shut my eyes tight, pretending I hadn’t heard a word he’d said.

The town’s dim streetlights filtered through the car window, casting a soft glow across my face.

With my eyes closed, my lashesthick as black featherstrembled with each nervous breath.

Vincent watched me, and suddenly his expression softened. He lifted his hand, wanting to brush away the fine hairs that had risen on my

cheek from fear.

But when he saw how terrified I was, he couldn’t help but chuckle. Am I really that frightening?he murmured.

Vincent had mastered the art of charming women with words.

If a woman wasn’t beautiful, he’d praise her body. If her figure wasn’t impressive, he’d compliment her eyes.

If her eyes were ordinary, he’d call her smile enchanting. And if she never smiled, he’d dub her a mysterious beauty.

Every woman called him handsome, clever, and irresistible. But I was apparently the first woman who actually feared him.

Thinking this over, Vincent straightened up, keeping his hands to himself and fighting the urge to touch me.

Just then, a figure rushed past the car, and the passenger door flew open. Blanche, get out,Demetrius’s voice cut through the tension.

At the sound of his voice, I opened my eyes, grabbed Demetrius’s hand, and quickly escaped the car with him.

I hadn’t meant to get in Vincent’s car in the first place; he’d just complained about the mosquitoes in town and suggested we talk inside

instead.

So I’d climbed in without thinking much about it.

But the moment I did, I realized I’d walked straight into his trap.

Once I was out, Demetrius stepped protectively in front of me, his expression icecold as he glared at Vincent. You might dress like a

gentleman, but don’t you know that forcing someone is illegal?

Vincent draped his hands casually over the steering wheel, arching an eyebrow with that infuriating smirk. Are you trying to insult me?

Demetrius didn’t hesitate. Yes

Vincent seemed completely unbothered. Instead, he laughed softly, his smile radiating practiced charm. Thinking about throwing a

punch, are you?

Demetrius’s response was immediate. Yes.”

Vincent pulled his hands from the wheel, leaning slightly closer. Just think about it, but don’t follow through.

Otherwise, my girl will come running to me for help even more often. I care about her too deeply to watch her grovel for some other

man’s sake. I’d get jealous.”

As he spoke, Vincent’s eyes sparkled with mischief, his roguish charm on full display. He sounded completely sincere, not a hint of

deception in his tone.

Demetrius had no interest in Vincent’s provocations. As long as I was safe, nothing else mattered to him.

But from Vincent’s words, Demetrius could read between the lines.

I must have approached Vincent about him losing his hospital jobfor his sake.

Demetrius knew I worried about him, but he didn’t want me degrading myself on his behalf.

So he took my hand and said, We need to talk.

I didn’t hesitate; I simply walked alongside Demetrius, following his lead.

Meanwhile, Vincent watched me turn away, his eyes narrowing as his smirk deepened. Hey, sweetheart, when you finally make up your

mind, don’t forget to call me. I promise I’ll drop everything.

With that, he burst into laughter, sticking his head out the window to add, Baby, the way you closed your eyes, waiting for me to kiss

you? Absolutely precious.

I hurried after Demetrius, my back damp with sweat as Vincent’s wild, arrogant laughter echoed behind us. Only when we rounded the

corner did his voice finally fade.

Demetrius stopped walking and turned to face me. Blanche, don’t you trust me?

He’d said it multiple times; Drew and the others would be begging him to return to the hospital.

But it seemed like I hadn’t really believed his words.

I caught the disappointment in Demetrius’s eyes, and worry crept into my voice as I said, No, that’s not it.

But this whole situation started because of me, so I wanted to-

Before I could finish, Demetrius gently grasped my arms, looking at me with that same earnest expression. Blanche, just trust me this time, okay? I can handle this

With Demetrius’s reassurance, I swallowed the rest of my words. I looked up at him with a smile.

Alright, I trust you.

Demetrius’s lips curved upward. It won’t take long

I nodded, feeling relief wash over me.

Demetrius didn’t come from wealth or influence; he’d earned everything through relentless study and hard work.

I honestly had no clue how he planned to fix this mess, but seeing his confidence, I couldn’t help but believe in him.

Zain’s POV

At Blissfield Villa, in the study, I hung up the phone and stared at it, waiting for it to ring again.

But as the silence dragged on, an inexplicable frustration built in my chest, souring my mood.

Thinking back to that soft little sound Blanche had made earlier, I narrowed my eyes.

If Drew’s information was accurate, then the man with her right now was Vincent. Blanche could be close to anyone she wantedjust

not Vincent.

With that thought, I grabbed my phone and called Desmond. Track Mrs. Jacob’s location,I said curtly.

Before Desmond could respond, I had already hung up.

Desmond called back shortly after.

I answered immediately, only to hear Desmond say, Mr. Jacob, I can’t track Mrs. Jacob’s location.”

After a pause, I said, Then track Vincent.

Soon after, Desmond called back. Mr. Jacob, I can’t track Vincent’s location either.

I was seething now. I didn’t waste words with Desmondjust hung up and immediately called Blanche.

But as soon as the call began ringing. I canceled it, then instantly tried again with a video call.

Blanche’s POV

I had just returned to my dorm when my phone screen lit up. Before I could even figure out if it was a video call or regular call, I

accidentally hit the answer button.

Suddenly, Zain’s face appeared on the screen, looking fierce enough to devour me whole.

I frowned, my irritation obvious. What now?

When Zain saw that I was fully clothed, all his anger seemed to evaporate instantly. His tone became much calmer What are you

doing?

I thought he was acting strange. I didn’t really want to answer, so I just asked, What do you want?

Zain’s voice turned cold. Come home tomorrow morning to make breakfast for Carry.

I sounded annoyed. I already told you. I’m not coming back tomorrow.

Even though both our faces were on screen, I barely glanced at Zain.

Zain, however, kept studying me and scanning the background, checking if anyone else was around.

But my impatient response only made Zain more agitated. He raised his voice and called out my name, Blanche Callum!

He was trying to intimidate me the way he used to.

I sat on the edge of my bed and propped my phone on the nightstand, slipping completely out of the camera’s view.

Now that Zain couldn’t see me anymore, I could sense that restless, uneasy feeling building up in him again. I knew he preferred the old

me, the one who always obeyed his commands. But this new version of myself, the one who constantly defied him, was clearly starting to

get under his skin.

I, on the other hand, felt much calmer now.

My voice was gentle as I said, Zain, speaking louder doesn’t make you right.
