"You ruthless bastard!" Talbot hissed, his eyes burning with pure venom.
To secure the Langley Group, Talbot had alienated the board, threatened the family allies, and irrevocably destroyed his relationship with Dante. He had burned every bridge. And it was all because Callahan had orchestrated this elaborate snare.
"If you ever viewed me as family, you wouldn't have pushed me into this corner!" Talbot snarled, looking like he wanted to rip his throat out.
"If you hadn't touched my grandfather, I might have let you walk," Callahan replied, entirely unfazed. "But you crossed the one line you shouldn't have. And now, you're going to vomit up every single thing you've stolen. With interest."
He turned his back on the ruined couple and snapped his fingers at the bodyguards.
"Escort my dear uncle and aunt to a guest suite in the west wing. Ensure they are kept very comfortable. Twenty-four-hour surveillance. No one goes in or out without my express permission."
"You wouldn't dare!" Talbot shrieked, thrashing against the guards in a final, pathetic burst of defiance. "I am a senior member of this family! You have no legal right to detain me! The board will never allow this! You're legally dead! You have no power here!"
"Power?" Callahan paused, glancing back over his shoulder. His eyes were fragments of glacial ice, emanating absolute, unquestionable dominance. "I am the power here. And as for the board? Once my grandfather wakes up, he'll give them—and whoever is pulling your strings—a very thorough explanation."
He placed a heavy emphasis on the final words, his gaze drifting toward the window as if addressing someone unseen in the city below.
As a seasoned physician, Dr. Watson knew the statistics. Dante was elderly, frail, and had just endured massive psychological trauma.
Leilani, however, wasn't interested in statistics.
She was the legendary Phantom Doctor of the dark web. She had pulled men out of body bags. She wasn't about to lose Callahan's grandfather.
"I said I could save him, and I will," Leilani said, her voice cool and commanding without breaking focus. "Dr. Watson, I don't need a pessimist breathing down my neck while I work. If you can't help, stand back and be quiet."
