The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 1019

Letty had tolerated the petty squabbles and the backstabbing from Talbot’s side of the family for years. But this was attempted murder. There was no walking back from this.

Callahan slowly turned around. His heavy gaze swept over his grandfather, who was now breathing steadily on the bed, before settling on his mother’s furious face.

He crossed the room and gently placed a hand on Letty’s trembling shoulder. When he spoke, his voice was a low, steady rumble—a comforting anchor in the storm.

"Mom, we can't involve the police. Not yet."

"Why on earth not?!" Letty demanded, trying to stand up, but his firm grip kept her anchored. "They practically spat in our faces! They tried to kill him! Are we really just going to swallow this and play nice?!"

She knew how much Callahan worshipped his grandfather. She couldn't fathom why he would ever show mercy to the people who did this.

"We aren't letting it go," Callahan replied softly, though a lethal, predatory gleam ignited in his eyes.

"But handing them over to the cops is a mercy they don't deserve. Besides, Uncle Talbot isn't smart enough to orchestrate a hit on me, silence the media, and stage a hostile takeover all in one weekend. He’s just the knife. I want the hand holding it."

Letty froze, her anger instantly evaporating into shock. "You're saying... there's someone else? Someone put them up to this?"
