Suddenly, Dante dropped another bombshell.
"And you two need to get a move on with the rest of it, too."
His eyes deliberately dropped to Leilani's flat stomach with an intensity that practically radiated heat.
"I want a great-grandkid by this time next year! Look at me, I've got one foot in the grave. I don't have a decade to wait!"
"Leilani, you're a brilliant doctor. Prescribe yourselves whatever vitamins or health regimens you need. The Langley family has always been small, so I'm counting on you two to expand the roster!"
He was already picturing a chubby toddler crawling around the living room, the wrinkles around his eyes crinkling in pure delight.
Leilani's face went crimson at his incredibly blunt demands. The heat spread all the way down her neck, practically radiating off her skin.
She wanted the floor to swallow her whole and shot Callahan a desperate, scolding glare.
His brain moves way too fast!
How did they jump from surviving a coup, to wedding planning, directly to making babies in the span of five minutes?!
Callahan caught her silent cry for help, his eyes swimming with deep amusement and utter adoration.
It wasn't every day he got to see Leilani this flustered. He was thoroughly enjoying the show.
But he also knew better than to push it. If she actually got mad, he'd be the one doing the groveling later.
He wrapped both his hands around hers, giving it a reassuring squeeze. He turned to his grandfather—who was practically glowing with the vision of four generations under one roof—and sighed with fond exasperation.
"It's a little early for that. Your only job right now is to recover and get your strength back. The great-grandkids... will happen. Just relax."
