"...Are you two going to finally tie the knot and give me some great-grandkids once this mess is cleaned up?"
"Do you know why all of this hit us so hard? Because you didn't leave an heir! If you had, that animal Talbot wouldn't have dared to get any funny ideas!"
In his mind, Dante was doing the math. These two had survived hell together and were finally on the same page. He wasn't about to let them slip back into their workaholic ways without locking this down.
Leilani hadn't expected the conversation to whip from absolute fury to marriage so fast. Her cheeks flushed hot, and she instinctively glanced at Callahan.
Callahan was already looking at her. Their eyes met, communicating volumes without a single word.
They had discussed marriage before, but Payton's poisoning had always been a looming shadow holding them back. Now that they had a lead on the antidote, they could actually start planning a future.
Feeling her gaze, Callahan reached out and intertwined his fingers tightly with hers. The solid warmth of his grip went straight to her heart.
He turned back to his grandfather, his expression carrying a gravity and devotion she had rarely seen. "Don't worry. Once I clean up the rest of this mess and clear out the threats to this family, Leilani and I are getting married. I'm going to give her the grandest, most beautiful wedding the Langley family has ever seen."
It was a promise he had been holding onto for a long time. Saying it out loud felt like a massive weight lifting off his shoulders.
He felt Leilani give his hand a gentle, affirming squeeze, sending a jolt of pure joy through his chest.
Hearing this, Dante's eyes lit up like a Vegas marquee.
He struggled to sit up straighter, the fatigue of his illness completely vanishing. He looked downright radiant, and his voice boomed through the room.
