Milford Sherwood was relatively calm. He poured a glass of warm water for his mother, immediately catching the core of her complaints.
"Mom, do you think Dad's situation has something to do with Tamara?"
He recalled his father's abnormal indulgence of her. When the truth about how she had harmed Yvonne came to light, Fitch had been surprisingly calm, going so far as to protect the very person who had caused his daughter's suffering.
"What else could it be?" Gloria snatched the glass, her face twisted in a mocking sneer. "Since that wrecker used her dirty tricks to latch onto you, have we had a single day of peace? Look what she did to Yvonne! And all the sins committed against Leilani..."
Gloria paused, a flicker of complex emotion passing through her eyes, but it was quickly swallowed by her fury toward Fitch and Tamara.
"And now look at him. He's gotten himself thrown into a cell!"
"And what about Tamara? Where is she? Did she see your dad's ship sinking and abandon it?"
In truth, Gloria couldn't care less where the woman was. She genuinely hoped Tamara had vanished for good, never to infect their lives again.
Milford frowned. "She should still be at the old estate, right?"
With the Sloan Group bankrupt and Hackett bedridden from a stroke, there was no way a selfish opportunist like her would willingly return to a life of hardship.
