Every word she said felt like a deliberate jab. Clive's expression turned thunderous. He snatched his mask and put it on.
"This isn't over!"
Just a damn doctor, and she dared to speak to him like that? Once he was done with Winifred, he would be back to deal with her.
Clive slammed the door and stormed down the hallway. He drove his sports car like a madman, racing toward the party, but the dull ache in his lower body was a constant, nagging reminder. He stewed over the doctor's dismissive attitude, feeling a surge of indignant anger.
His phone lit up again. Whether out of genuine concern or for some other reason, Winifred's messages started pouring in.
[Winifred: Clive, don't keep us waiting too long~]
[Winifred: Remember to bring that fox tail costume piece. ]
[Winifred: I know this is hard work for you. That villa you had your eye on? I've already had the papers drawn up in your name.]
[Winifred: And that limited-edition sports car you mentioned? It'll be delivered to your garage tomorrow.]
"Winifred, where is your precious Clive?" a woman in a haute couture gown asked, swirling her wine with an expectant look in her eyes. "I heard he's wearing that 'special custom' suit tonight."
Winifred chuckled, her fingertips tracing the rim of her glass. "What's the rush? The best part of the show always comes last. When have I ever found a treasure and not shared it with my girls? Don't you trust me?"
The women exchanged knowing, suggestive glances. They all knew this was no ordinary party. Everyone in the room was keenly aware of what the night's main event was.
Just then, the main doors swung open, and Clive walked in. The room fell silent for a beat. He had changed into a dark red velvet suit, its elegant cut highlighting his broad shoulders and narrow waist. The collar was unbuttoned just enough to reveal a hint of his collarbone. But the most striking feature was the pair of fluffy, crimson fox ears nestled in his hair. They trembled slightly as he walked, lending his handsome face an almost demonic allure.
