"I think I heard Mr. Langley's voice at the door just now. Don't tell me the package was a surprise from him?"
Leilani subconsciously touched the ring on her fourth finger. She cleared her throat. "Is the change in my mood that obvious?"
Leilani prided herself on her emotional control, believing she could mask her anger or sadness quite well, unlike what Yvonne was suggesting.
Yvonne narrowed her eyes. "Yes!"
She stepped closer, and her gaze suddenly froze, fixed on Leilani's left hand. She didn't know when it had appeared, but a diamond ring now quietly encircled Leilani's ring finger. The band was simple, but the main diamond was brilliant, catching the light in the entryway and scattering it in tiny, dazzling fragments.
Yvonne's eyes widened in an instant. "Leilani! When did you get a ring?"
No, wait! Leilani rarely wore jewelry, and even if she were to buy a ring, it wouldn't be this style. The design looked more like... an engagement ring.
As a thought struck her, Yvonne grabbed Leilani's hand, her voice shooting up an octave. Her eyes sparkled, filled with the thrill of discovering earth-shattering gossip. "Is this... is this what I think it is?"
Did Callahan propose to Leilani today?
A faint heat rose in Leilani's ears as she gave a slight nod. "Yes."
While Leilani didn't plan on a public announcement, she had no intention of hiding it from her close friends. Besides, living under the same roof as Yvonne, it would be impossible to keep it a secret anyway.
Leilani felt a bit embarrassed by the blunt praise, and her fingers curled slightly. She'd never paid much attention to her hands before, but hearing Yvonne's words, she had to admit the ring did make them look exceptionally pretty.
Of course, she wouldn't admit that out loud. She just smiled and gently flicked Yvonne's forehead. "You're being ridiculous."
How was she being ridiculous? She was just speaking the truth. Yvonne pouted in protest. But knowing Leilani's personality, she wasn't used to such over-the-top compliments.
Seeing as it was Leilani's special day, Yvonne decided to let it slide. Instead, she started grilling her for details about the proposal. "When did Mr. Langley propose? How did he do it? Was the scene super romantic?"
Leilani didn't know whether to laugh or cry at the barrage of questions. "Slow down..."
