Leilani pulled her hand back, her expression dangerously blank.
"Holy shit! Dr. Sloan, you're a total badass?"
Shaun blurted out, utterly dumbfounded. He knew she was a genius doctor, but he had no idea she possessed such lethal combat skills.
Leilani didn't have the luxury of acknowledging him. She quickly stepped back, pressing her spine firmly against Callahan’s.
In the darkness, Callahan could feel the tense coil of her muscles and the rapid, steady thrum of her heartbeat. She was extraordinarily calm.
Another masked man lunged from the shadows, a combat knife glinting as he slashed at Leilani’s throat. Instead of retreating, she ducked beneath the blade, letting it graze her hair. With a flash of steel, she drove a needle straight toward the side of the man's neck.
The attacker froze mid-strike. Working in perfect tandem, Callahan delivered a brutal, precise chop to the back of the man's neck. The mercenary crumpled to the floor like a ragdoll.
Callahan’s strikes were ruthless and fast, his eyes cold and devoid of hesitation.
"Two more creeping up from the southwest corner. I've got them," Leilani said rapidly. Without missing a beat, she drew a black handgun from her tactical thigh holster. She raised it, aimed, and fired in one fluid motion.
Bang! Bang! The deafening gunshots echoed through the enclosed space.
The bullets struck the concrete in the southwest corner, sending up a shower of sparks and debris.
The two mercenaries about to ambush them flinched and retreated, their momentum entirely shattered.
Despite the group's impressive skills, the sheer number of enemies was overwhelming. The mercenaries were highly trained and moved as a coordinated unit.
