The Raven Wolf King: Wolfless novel Chapter 32

Chapter 32-1

Chapter 32

~Raphael-

“We gave chase and have a few prisoners,” Urien says.

“How many?” I ask.

“Four.”

“Break them. Find out everything you can, and make sure we have enough men guarding the border tonight.”

He lowers his head. “Yes, Alpha.”

I turn from my men and begin walking through the camp. It spreads across rough ground, filled with tents and smoky fires. The air smells of wood smoke and boiled food. It hums with

tension.

Healers tend to the wounded in a quieter corner, the smell of herbs mixing with blood for those struck by silver bullets. It takes us longer to heal from such things. Naked men and women pace around the camp, having just been in battle-including me.

My steps carry me to the war tent where the generals have gathered. A helper moves among them, passing out towels, 118:38

southeast border. The sharp mountains seem to deter the enemy. He’s sending Lieutenant Ivy to our aid,” Albert- Valeria’s father-announces.

“When will she get here?” another general asks.

“A few days.”

“Good-”

“THE ENEMY IS ATTACKING AGAIN!” a soldier shouts.

“Again?!”

“Fall back to your stations!” I shout.

Everyone scatters as I make my way to the front of the camp, where my men are already engaged in battle. As their general, I have to stay in my human form to give orders, only shifting if it’s completely necessary.

“Push them back!” I shoul.

This doesn’t seem like the normal small attacks, but it’s not full force either.

Instincts suddenly take over, dodging a silver axe that flies past me, lodging itself in a nearby barrel.

throwing axe in her hand. She tosses it lazily into the air, catching it again and again, her grin never leaving me. Then, without warning, her axes fly once more, slicing through the air and cutting down several of my men.

I rush her, and she takes off running, suddenly stopping at the edge of the woods. She turns, and behind her stands a man covered in scars, his body marked by battles that should’ve killed him. Beside him, another man begins to change, his bones snapping, his body twisting until he becomes a massive werewolf.

I don’t shift. I stay in my human form, but the beast inside me is awake. My fists tighten, claws half-extended, ready.

“Now, which general are you?” the woman mutters playfully. She suddenly moves, her axes flashing. I duck low, feeling the wind of her strike pass over me. I rush her, my fist driving into her ribs. She crashes into a tree, breath knocked out, scrambling

to rise.

The scarred man comes at me next, his fists meant to break bones. I block one with my forearm, the impact rattling through me, then slam my elbow into his jaw. He grunts, blood spilling from his lip, yet he doesn’t fall and throws a punch that connects with my ribs. It barely stings. Leaving himself open, my claws rake across his chest, tearing through old scars, and he stumbles back.

his heart stops beating. The beast shudders once, then lies still at my feet.

“Too damn easy,” I mutter.

The woman stares, wide-eyed, her second axe trembling in her hand. “This is not a general…” she whispers.

She’s got that right. I’ve been training since I could walk; every scar was earned. My body is built for war, my claws sharper than any blade. If these fools could actually take me down, it wouldn’t just be a fight lost… it would be an insult to everything

I am.

“He’s too strong,” the scarred man says as he pulls the woman back, both of them knowing they cannot win. They vanish into the trees, leaving the clearing behind. I’d give chase, but it wouldn’t be wise. I could stumble into their full squadron.

I stand alone, chest steady, blood dripping from my claws, and a few wounds. The woods are silent again. All enemies retreat.

“Raphael!” Urien comes behind me. “They’re retreating.”

“They were looking to take out one of the generals,” I mutter.

Returning to camp, I gather with the generals and recount what took place.

I lean forward, voice firm. “We’re not just warriors-we’re a formation. Generals overlap, patrols overlap, and every man watches the one beside him. If they want to break us, they’ll have to break the wall we built together.”

The generals nod, some grim, some thoughtful. I press on. “Double the perimeter watch. Rotate shifts so no one grows careless. And if they come again, we don’t just defend—we strike back hard enough that they’ll think twice before daring to test us again.”

The generals rise one by one, each ready to carry out the orders. Albert comes to my side. “It’s good to have you here. Your presence strengthens the men’s resolve and secures their morale.”

“It’s good to be back in battle. Gives me purpose. But I’ll have to leave again. Father wants me back at the castle.”

He nods. “With your guidance, I’m sure we’ll be able to hold them back.”

Albert’s eyes slide behind me. Alpha Brimstone slowly approaches us. Valeria’s father subtly bows and leaves.

I face Brimstone. “General Brimstone, you seem better.”

“I can walk, so I suppose I am. I wanted to speak to you about

men. Have they served you well?”

“I see. And I’m supposed to continue our partnership when you don’t wish to uphold your end of the bargain?”

“Speak freely, General,” I tell him.

“You were supposed to take my daughter as your mate.”

“If power is what you want, mate her to Tobias.”

“That’s not what she wants,” he argues.

“I won’t be a bargaining chip for a child’s whims.”

“This isn’t how things are done. You rely on my men, and if you want to keep them—”

“Threaten me at your own risk, General,” I warn him. How dare he even try?

My eyes bore into him, like a laser ready to strike.

He presses his mouth together, holding back his anger.

Urien arrives at that moment. “Alpha, borders are secured.”

Brimstone takes the chance to leave. I slightly turn to Urien, but my eyes never leave the wounded General until he’s gone from the war tent.

“I want you to watch him,” I mutter to Urien.

He sighs and whispers under his breath as he leaves. “My work never ends.”

I head to my tent once the enemy seems to have settled for the night.

Inside, a large central table dominates the space, covered in maps, scrolls, and markers showing troop positions. A lantern burns low, casting shadows across the room. I grab the bucket of water from the corner, take a rag, and start cleaning the dirt and blood off my body. Once done, I pull on pants and finally lie in my cot, ready to call Valeria-but someone suddenly enters my

tent.

“How did it go?” Fera asks.

“You need to learn to announce yourself before walking in here,” I bark at her.

“It’s nothing I haven’t seen before. Men walk naked around

Se parts all the time. So? What happened?”

“Yeah. What do you want?” My tone is stern.

“I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”

“I am. Now you can leave.”

“Why are you like this? What did I do to make you not like me?”

“Force me into mating you. You could’ve had my brother, Tobias. He’s been looking for a new mate.”

“A deal was struck, and it was for us to be mated. I intend to keep that deal.”

“With yourself?” I smile, but it’s not a pleasant one.

Her eyes flare, and before I can react, she rushes me-pinning me to the cot, straddling my waist. “Let me show you. Let me show you I can be a good mate. Better than that—

“Watch what you’re about to say,” I warn her.

“Her,” she says, her hand sliding down my chest. “I can be better than her.”

Slowly, I snake my hand behind her neck, and with speed, I twist her around and let her fall to the floor. “Leave.”

Bâ—”
